My previous treadmill, purchased around 15 years ago, after losing a number of teeth on the incline bolt last year, finally gave up, threw its hands up in the air and went off to spend its golden years in the great treadmill farm in the sky. To be fair, it probably only lasted as long as it had because for the first five years or so it lived the cushy life as clothes rack. But, eventually, we started to make it work for its room and board and used it regularly for its intended purpose. But all good things come to an end and so it was with our treadmill. Because we are creatures of habit, and can’t envision a life running in the “outside world”, visible to all, it was time to start looking for a replacement. I had initially been leaning towards another treadmill prior to making this purchase and had almost pulled the trigger several times, before I stumbled across an Amazon purchasing guide in which they had performed reviews and rankings of some of their best sellers (though I’ll be damned if I can find that page again to link here; I’m beginning to wonder if I hallucinated it after a particularly long peyote and Doritos binge). After reading over their recommendations, I spent some time further investigation the options in my price range, and eventually decided to go with this unit, as it seems to have the most features that I wanted and the company actually got some pretty positives regarding customer service (that’s what’s called foreshadowing, kids), which can’t be said for a lot of the other companies I was looking at. Ordering was smooth and the very next day, a Sunday no less, an Amazon delivery truck showed up at my house with my brand new treadmill. The box is large. Almost as tall as the door itself when standing upright. And it’s heavy. Once we had it inside the house, we had to unbox it and move it in pieces to get it upstairs where the unit is to be used. Even unboxed, it still took three of us to get the deck upstairs without banging it into walls all the way up. Once up the stairs, it was fairly easy to put together. The included instructions were clear and simple to follow. It can be easier if you have a second person there when putting the uprights on, but I’m stubborn and, with a bit of cursing and some awkward twisting, managed to get them on myself. I did need another person to help with putting the control board on as it’s hard to get the holes to line up otherwise. Based on the instructions, I needed to lubricate the deck as I couldn’t feel any oil under the tread. That process was pretty simple, although lifting the tread to get the included oil bottle the recommended six inches under is…something. The track is fairly tight around the deck, as you would expect it to be since it, you know, needs to not slip around while you are running on it. But I was able to get it at least far enough that I felt I had done a good job. After that, I started to test the unit out. Note that, as of this writing, I still haven’t actually run any of the preset workouts, so I can’t speak to any of the features regarding those. I did run through the basics though, checking that all the buttons operated properly, ensuring the incline and speeds operated as expected, checking the heartrate monitor, etc. Everything seems to work great so far. The switch between speeds and incline levels is smooth as silk too. Unlike my old unit, there’s no noticeable lag between speeds or levels. The incline adjustment is so seamless that I wasn’t even initially sure it was working; I had to step off the unit, adjust the incline, and step back on to be sure it had actually moved. Be aware that it does get fairly high at its apex, so, if you’re a tall person, you’ll likely want to put it where there are taller ceilings if possible. I was also really shocked at how quiet it is. Not that its noise is unnoticeable or anything, but, when using my old treadmill, I couldn’t listen to TV without turning it up so load as to possibly induce inner ear bleeding. But the RTX3500 is quiet enough that I can hear the TV with only a small increase over normal volume. I love, love, LOVE the speed and incline buttons on the uprights. They make mid workout changes so much easier than stabbing your pumping hands at the control board. The ability to pause your workout is nice. The treadmill keeps your current settings stored so that, when you start back up, you don’t have to adjust everything back to where it was. Also, in relation to the pause feature, it’s a controlled slow down and decline of the deck, so that you aren’t jogging one second and at a dead stop the next. Additionally, unlike my previous treadmill, you need to turn it off at the power switch to completely shut the unit down. My old unit shut off by removing the key. It’s a pretty minor thing, but I didn’t expect it. Also, take note that it’s big. With a 60” deck, it’s a larger unit than my old one, which was only 55”, but even folded up, it takes up quite a bit more sideways space. On my old unit, the deck folded up to almost perpendicular to the floor. This one, folds to an off 90-degree angle, maybe closer 65 or 70, which means it takes up more real estate even when not in use. I have mine set up with its side to a shelving system. Most of the stuff on it I is just there for storage, but if I needed any of it, I would have to lower the deck to get at it, which I didn’t need to do with the old one. It’s also wider than my old unit, which means if you are replacing an older model, you’ll probably need more width as well. Luckily, I knew all this going in and had plenty of space prepared for it. It has a fan, but I don’t know why. It’s buried far enough back in the control panel, and small enough, that you don’t feel it at all unless you are inches away from the grill. Of course, a fan on a treadmill is a pretty inconsequential extravagance anyway. And the speakers are..well…they’re speakers. They’re small, by necessity more than anything else. I mean, they kind of have to be given how limited the real estate is on the control panel. They’re tinny and don’t produce much base to speak of. They certainly aren’t made for rocking the block, but they do in a pinch when you want to listen to a podcast or something while working out. I did notice as I was putting it together that the plastic motor cover was cracked and broken in several places, so I called the included troubleshooting number on the following Monday and spoke with their customer service representative (remember that foreshadowing I was talking about earlier?), Shelly L., and, after explaining the situation, she was incredibly sympathetic and quick to help and get me a replacement in the mail. She even spent extra time to help me get my treadmill registration set up. I’ll be honest here. I wasn’t sure what to expect as I had seen a lot of negative reviews of various companies specifically in regards to their customer service, but I couldn’t have been happier and more reassured with my interactions with Shelly. She was professional, patient and friendly and I thank her for all of that. At this point, I'm very happy to have chosen this particular unit. So far, it’s well worth the money. I’ll be over the moon if it lasts nearly as long as my previous unit. TL/DR: Pros: Quiet operation, smooth incline and speed adjustments, buttons for speed and incline on the uprights, friendly customer service. Cons: None so far. Will update if I find anything to address. Things to be aware of: It’s size (make sure you have plenty of space), if you are used to a unit with power that shuts off with key removal, you’ll need to start getting used to also turning off the actual power button.

This treadmill is solid, heavy piece of equipment that includes incline and a fan. It has a 3HP motor. Directions are clear and fairly easy to follow but do yourself a favor and put aside the time to focus on the assembly. If you rush and not look over the directions you will need to call the phone number provided for assistance. The directions are clear: DO NOT PUT the TREADMILL ON IT"S SIDE TO REMOVE PACKING STRAP AND PLASTIC WRAPPING . The machine needs to stay flat to the floor to assemble. If you lift to put the deck on its side it will spring open and it won't close. Using the phone number with the manual we called Customer Service who responded quickly and sent a video to my mobile phone. The video showed clearly what we needed to do to close the treadmill to complete assembly. Once the treadmill was closed allowing it to lay flat on the floor, it was easy going to assemble the arms to the decking and the console. The machine comes with a packet that includes the bolts and washers in addition to lubricating oil to put under the belt, Utube has directions as to how to apply the oil to treadmill belt. Very easy to do. The frequency of using the lubricant depends on how often you use the treadmill. Minimum lubricating is once a year but as frequently as every 3 or 6 month. When you need to purchase more lubricant you will need oil for Treadmills which is 100% SILICONE OIL. DO NOT USE WD40 OIL. The console has wire connections that are also in the arms to match up. If you find that the console does not come on once the machine is plugged in, you may need to remove the console to check the connecting wires. Power off the treadmill, unscrew the console and then check the wiring connections on both arms. We had one disconnect and once reconnected the console lite up and worked as it should. I would suggest if you have electrical tape, you might want to use if it would help keep the connections in place. Overall a nice machine. This machine is made in China. I was not able to find in the same price range with same features one made in the United States.

I do not write reviews. this product has made me want to make aware of certain issues that might sway purchase. None of these issues have made me want to regret purchase. Basically, underdeveloped problems. I have had multiple treadmills. I have learned that lifetime of a treadmill varies. My typical lifetime for the $700 price range is 6-7 years. Not that they are not repairable, but the cost become relatively close buying a new one. I am not talking labor; but buying a 3rd party part and installing yourself. CONS: 1) I never had treadmill where the magnet did not power off the unit. Not on this model. You have to bend down and power off the unit from the base. This is not debatable; it states it explicably in the manual. If you do not the screen stays powered on making it a power leech. This makes it a potential head injury if you bend underneath the console. 2) The front is lighter than the deck. Not a big deal, but when you lower the deck the front raises up off the ground until the weight distributes. 3) There is no continuity between user settings and programmed settings. (Explained in Pros). 4) In order for the pre-programmed settings to work you have to set 6 settings. Only 2 are required to make it work right, these 2 settings should be eliminated. The bar graph for the workouts are really a percentage of your input. So, if you natively choose #3(random) you will only lose 4 calories. (the default max incline and speed make them ineffective). PROS: 1) The quality is bar none. Sturdy, even though the weight is not evenly distributed. 2) The best treadmill I have owned was a Proform. The one simple reason was it had a number of pre-programmed workouts. It had a weight setting; this setting altered the workout. So, you could put in a bogus weight giving you essentially an endless number of workouts. This unit has that function. 3) 2 User settings is off the chart awesome for something in this price range. 4) Hello, 4 steps to assemble. The easiest assembly ever. 5) The way that I can manipulate the 6 user settings I have to enter make it nearly an unlimited number of programmed workouts. (Yest there is a number that can be assigned). 6) PRO and CON, the 4 wheels for movement make it a bit easier, but they are not big enough to truly make it easier to move. Put this under pro because it really is not a negative. 7) Very open website with all documentation. Suggestions to Exterra 1) Either tie in the user settings to the 30 workouts, or remove the max speed and incline to match the matrix. This is a huge miss on your part. I know you want flexibility, but to spend 4 minutes to setup your workout lessens the convenience factor. 2) Bend down to power off, really!!!!!!!!! 3) The biggest by far. You have 2 user settings. Make the input settings a part of that globally. Choose user 1 and that setting pre-populates for the 30 workouts.

I purchased this treadmill 10 months ago. It is a solid machine. I like the length and width. I use it in the manual mode as I like to tailor my work outs to how I feel as I work. I haven't used the program so I can't speak on that feature. I walk and run and use various inclines and speeds. It operates smoothly. It is not too loud but no a quiet machine. It is heavy so get some help moving it to the location you want. Set up is easy. It does require an extra person to simply hold the parts in place while you secure the bolts. It folds very easily and doesn't take up a lot of space folded. Deployment from the folded position is a breeze. The last few inches is a drop so be aware. I simply hold it those last few inches and let it down easy. It rolls easily on a hard surface or short napped carpet. One complaint which is not a deal breaker as long as you are aware, It will leak a little oil after set up and after the required periodic lubrication. Don't put in your main room with your good carpet. Overall a great machine for all levels. It is long and wide enough to forgive you miss a step. The timer is accurate. The incline and speed controls are easy to adjust as you work. It has a safety cut off cord that works. It has a pulse reader which which I don't use. 2 cup holders. The speakers are small and worthless. The display is large and easy to read. Great machine for folks like me that don't care about all the gimmicks. It has them but don't use them. 10 thumbs up.

First off, I am 58 yrs old, 6'5, and weigh 300 lbs. This machine, in packaging, is very heavy. 250 lbs, long and difficult to get moved around, especially around corners or up stairs. Make sure you have help. The set-up to assemble the machine, un-package it, clear the area, lay everything out, make sure tools and power access are all ready, took about an hour. The machine has the minimum tools required to assemble it, all the parts were there and in good condition. The machine was undamaged, the packaging is excellent and protected the unit very well. The actual assembly was VERY easy, the assembly instructions were clear and correct. Assembly took 45 minutes. **The one problem we have had is: If the machine is plugged in and the power switch is on, but the key is not inserted (in E0 displayed mode) it trips the circuit breaker in our home panel. The 15 amp circuit breaker on the unit does not prevent this. We just make sure the unit is powered OFF when not in use as per the instructions. However, this didn't happen with our other Treadmill.** Regardless of this one issue we have noted thus far, this is a great product, and I recommend it. I have about 12 miles on it this week. It is smooth, stable, quiet, durable, and we really like it. The display is easy to see, and the layout is user friendly. The price was a bit on the higher side, but the value for that price is worth it. If we have any real negative issues in the next few months of use, I will update as needed. This is a very good product, and the company did a great job designing and manufacturing it. ***11 October 2023, 7 months after purchase and still in warranty*** Had a problem with several error codes and impromptu shutdowns. Contacted the company, and they got the info they needed to make a decision as I kept them up to date as too how often it error coded and which codes. They communicated well, and sent a replacement Circuit Board once they decided that would be the fix, as well as an "L" bracket that was broken. I had the part for about 2 weeks, and they were unable to get a technician in the area to do the repair. I finally told them I could do it if they assisted, and they did. Paige, and several other CSR's were involved. I sent pics of the current install, and Paige confirmed it was correct, I then replaced the board using the picture/installed Board as the template. I did the "Calibration" procedure as directed by Paige, and everything seems to be working fine now. I'll verify no issues over the next couple weeks. Not a perfect solution, but if you have a bit of mechanical aptitude, that repair and their assistance is not very difficult. Hopefully, they get more Techs.**

EDIT: STRONGLY RECOMMEND NOT BUYING This treadmill (TRX3500) is better than I expected. Overall, very happy with the purchase so far, especially with how budget friendly it was at $780 at the time we bought it. It was important to me to get a unit with at least 3.0HP since my spouse planned on doing a lot of running with it, and it hasn't disappointed so far. Other treadmills we had looked at were the NordicTrack 6.5S (only 2.6HP), Sole F80, and the Cardio 3G. Since we're first time treadmill owners, we thought we'd take a chance on this one as the specs seemed like it would be good value for the money spent with a decently sized belt (20x60) and a stronger motor. I see that it's dropped $40 since so it's an even better deal now! Assembly was easy between two people. Lubricating the treadmill with the provided lube was annoying because you had to loosen the belt significantly to get under it, and even then, it was not easy to lube, and it was annoying to have to tighten the belt back since it requires quite a bit of time and adjustments. For the first several weeks, I noticed that it was clunking when landing, so I ended up buying a different lube that has a long tube to dispense the lubricant without having to loosen the treadmill belt and it works wonders. Now the unit is a lot quieter and smoother as well. Stability was never an issue for me or my spouse, and we use the tablet holder on the display unit to hold our tablets with no real issues there either. Some stats in 5 weeks of usage: me - 5'2" 128 lbs - 12h of a mix of walking, speed walking, jogging - treadmill speed between 2.5-5 mph used - average of 7 miles/week - incline up to 8 used my spouse - 5'10" 155 lbs - 55h of a mix of walking, jogging, running, and speed intervals - treadmill speed between 3-10mph used - average of 55 miles/week - incline up to 8 used We live in an area that gets over 80" of snow a year, so the treadmill has definitely gotten plenty of love. The shock absorption is noticeable as running outside on concrete for the first time in weeks made my joints pretty sore. The only negative point I have about the treadmill so far is that sometimes the display screen has gone wonky, with it getting pixelated randomly, or the speed display showing as much higher than the speed it actually is without adjusting it. This did not affect the actual speed of the belt though. There is also a slight incline even at 0 incline which is fine. Currently, we are lubing and vacuuming the motor every 2 weeks for maintenance. I admit, at the price point, I expect that it'll break at some point prematurely, but so far, it's been rock solid. 1 year update: I'm moving the rating from 5 stars to 2 stars. I still think the treadmill is decent for a starter and its price, but if you are a serious runner, like my spouse and I, it has been rather subpar. For a casual runner/walker, I would give it a 3. Some issues I can list: - The treadmill belt is soooo cheap. It has been very slippery over time as the lubricant bleeds through the belt. Makes for a very uncomfortable run unless the treadmill belt surface is cleaned regularly. Have taken apart the belt, cleaned under, cleaned the motor, everything youtube suggests for slippery belts, and it just flat out sucks. - The display will periodically trip over itself and numbers will no longer be visible even as treadmill continues to run - The treadmill has turned itself off mid run for no apparent reason with a "BLE" error code - It often shows ERR even as it continues running for incline - Workout app is garbage if you are looking to use it to track metrics from the treadmill - The bottom of the treadmill was sparking until we added a metal piece to finish the circuit as it was catching a loose piece of metal. Poor design. - Slow to increase speed if you are running with mixed speeds - When discussing issues with Xterra support, they were completely useless and unhelpful Happy we got a year out of it, but I do feel it has been anything but problem free. Still, like I mentioned, for the price and mileage we've gotten out of it, it isn't a 1 star product. The running volume I listed in original review has actually increased since we purchased it (I got a lot more serious about running). I also like that it's one of the few treadmills in this price range that offers a longer and wider deck. Regardless, I suspect we'll be upgrading to a different treadmill soon. 13 month update: Shortly after I wrote my last edit, the treadmill has started powering off on its own with an E5 code, and the incline function has broken completely. This is a piece of garbage and we've averaged 32 miles between both of us per week, which really isn't that much in the grand scheme of things. No treadmill should not be dying within 13 months. Will try to file a support claim, but I don't expect much with their garbage support.

This is the best value for a home gym treadmill. I’ve gone through a few treadmills in the past few years trying to find something perfect, this seems to be my sweet spot. Though this is not necessarily cheap, it is a great value knowing how expensive treadmills can be. Building it was sort of a pain, but that’s only because I built it without any extra hands. So, though it’s not recommended to build solo, it is possible. There’s only 4 pieces to attach so it’s a super quick process and is pretty sturdy. You have to really try and shake it for it to wobble. The build quality is nice. I love how long and wide the belt is. I have long strides, so I’ve never been able to run on a treadmill unless I’m at a commercial gym, so being able to actually run and not just jog is nice. The stability of the machine stays true while running too. At 200lbs, I felt no sense of shakiness. The motor is also super quiet, which wasn’t necessary, but is nice. The incline is a great height. There are still plastic parts in the build, which is to be expected, but the frame itself is solid. The interface works as expected. Super straight forward and easy to use. No issues there. Over all, I don’t have many bad things to say about this treadmill. I think they did a great job for the price. The overall size, stability, and functionality seems to be a huge step up from a ~$400 treadmill. I’ve seen some treadmills that are about the same price as this that look better and have more tech features, but the build quality or mechanical features aren’t that great. This really optimizes the best parts of a treadmill and it’s hard not to recommend if its within your budget.

This is a great treadmill! We wanted one that is quiet and had an extra long running surface. This is it! Easy to put together, though it takes two people. It’s very solid and well made. The controls are super convenient and work well. The only surprise was that it has only an 8 mm hole to plug something in to the built-in speaker. We had to order an 8 mm to USB C wire for our phones but then the sound wasn’t great anyway. Better to just use an external speaker. All in all, it’s great!
