Most learners will be able to approach this book after one to two years of formal study, depending on the learner and program. This series is designed to combine simplicity of characters with an easy-to-understand storyline that helps beginners grow their vocabulary and language comprehension abilities. Review: A Great Little Story With Cute Illistrations - I have read The Ransom of Red Chief and am reading it a second time. This book makes the eighth Mandarin Companion graded reader that I own and have read multiple times. Its a cute story and I like the illustrations...especially the one where 红猴 is sleeping while the 两个不怕死人 write the ransom note. He looked like an innocent toddler, while in the other illustrations he was obviously quite 厉害. And poor 老马。。。 As always, the quality of the adaptation is high, and I keep recognizing new grammar with every reread. I am learning Chinese through several different avenues, trying to create an immersion situation for myself. I really appreciate having the Mandarin Companion books at my reading level, so that I can enjoy entertaining stories while learning and practicing. I am eagerly looking forward to the next Mandarin Companion reader. Meanwhile, I will keep reading and rereading. If, like me, you have trouble seeing the tone marks in the glossary, get yourself a magnifier bookmark. Review: Nothing but praise for this material - I've read several books from this collection in the last year and a half, since I started learning Mandarin, and I can't believe how much progress they've helped me make with my vocabulary. Where I had to constantly tap on the highlighted words to see their meaning, now I can almost read this book without searching the glossary. Can't wait to get started on the next level! ## Technical Specifications | Specification | Value | |---------------|-------| | Best Sellers Rank | #1,604,670 in Books ( See Top 100 in Books ) #293 in Chinese Literature #391 in Children's Chinese Language Books #9,123 in Children's Beginner Readers | | Customer Reviews | 4.5 out of 5 stars 41 Reviews | ## Images ![The Ransom of Red Chief: Mandarin Companion Graded Readers Level 1, Simplified Chinese Edition - Image 1](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71UsJXowZUL.jpg) ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A Great Little Story With Cute Illistrations *by R***A on February 22, 2018* I have read The Ransom of Red Chief and am reading it a second time.
