Do not buy this product.
I bought the EZON heart rate monitor watch primarily for the heart rate function, and that function does not work. I thought it might be weak batteries so I installed fresh batteries (at the extra cost of $25 at a jeweler), but that made no difference. The heart rate displays for a short time then disappears, and the rate that it shows is drastically low (verified by manually counting my heart rate). The clock and chronograph functions do work, but the hourly chime and alarm functions do not.

Solid, old-school HRM (no iPhone/apps required!)
The old Polar-style HRM's always worked great for me, and this one is very easy to use. You can set the time (like a Casio sport watch) and program the monitor if you like--I'm just running mine as a real-time HRM. It works fine at resting--haven't used it for cycling yet, but expect reliable function.

Reasonable design at a reasonable price.
I was not very optimistic when I ordered this. It has plenty of problems noted in the reviews. Many of the negative comment are valid in my experience after using this for a few weeks: like the chest strap attachment is impossible - you have to step into this and pull it up, and never unbuckle it; the wrist strap is really bad. There are probably better options, but at 3 to 5 time this price. I was tempted to give it 5 stars, but then nobody reads the 5 star reviews - they typically come from people who never even try to use the product :-)The readout is very easy to set up and to read. I don't mount it on my wrist - I mount it on the handle bar. Wrap the bar with a 1 inch wide strip of thick packing material, secured by duct or electrical tape and use it in place of your wrist. You can switch from heart rate to time, etc. with just a touch of a button. If this works for a year or so I'll be quite happy.Update: I changed my 3 stars to five. As you see above I had some ideas that may actually help users work with this unit so I didn't use 5 stars because nobody reads 5 star reviews :-) Later I had a problem with the wrist strap - it broke off. As noted by other reviewers that strap is problematic - it's too stiff, especially where it connects to the watch. That part is absolutely rigid rather than flexible like a pin connection that a normal wrist watch would have. You need to be careful not to flex that joint too much because it will brake rather than flex. And mine did brake. So I told the seller, he apologized and sent a replacement which I got in a few days. Great service which you don't often see these days.Just a note about putting on the chest strap - after using it a dozen times I really do find it quite easy to just "step in" and pull it up to position rather than dealing with the buckles which are not easy to attach. I just never detach them.I spent a lot of time looking for a chest strap HRM with a simple readout that does not require pulling out a cell phone. This is the only one I could find, and it's quite inexpensive besides.

works as expected
The heart rate monitor works as expected. I like the large display. With so much area to work with, it is a shame that the designers could not have included display modes showing two pieces of information on the screen at the same time such as heart rate and current time. The instructions for setting the date and time were clear and the design is intuitive enough that one could figure it out without the manual. For the record, the signal emitted by the EZON chest strap was picked up by a Step Mill 7000 stair climber machine at the gym. However, the signal from an analog Polar chest strap was not picked up by the EZON watch. This would suggest that the EZON uses the newer digital transmission protocol.==============Here is an update. After about 10 months of use the battery in the watch died. I bought Energizer CR2032 (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002RID4G) batteries for $6. Replacing the battery was straightforward but required a tiny screwdriver. The chest strap and watch continue to work well.I agree with the comment from another poster that the connector for the chest strap is awkward. Even after using it all this time I sometimes have to fiddle with it to get it seated. This is a trivial issue considering the cost.

Buy Something Else
Pros -- Numbers are large and easy to see.Cons -- I wanted to like this Heart Rate Monitor --- BUT ---1- The High Rate Alarm is SO FAINT, it can be heard only if the watch is pressed against your ear.2- Has 4 buttons that all do multiple things and ARE NOT User Friendly.3- Buttons are so-so. Sometimes they work, and sometimes you need to wiggle them to hit the "sweet spot".4- In Set Up mode (entered while on the correct mode, ie Time, then pushing and holding the Light button), the numbers are big, but the prompts are tiny/worthless.5- Set up isn't easy and hitting the wrong button (which always seems to be in the way) kicks you out.6- The strap for the watch is stiff and ackward.7- Who ever designed the chest strap NEVER TRIED TO PUT ONE ON. The "latch" is VERY HARD to connect. Maybe you are suppose to connect it then slide the chest strap down over your head.8- I'm not a skinny minny, but I'm not huge either. If you are over a 42 inch chest, the strap won't fit.9- Does not Auto Start displaying Heart rate when Chest Strap is worn. You have to select that "mode".10- A Heart Rate Monitor should do one thing and do it well, namely report Heart Rate. It DOES NOT need ---a- an Alarm feature to wake you up (though given the faint chime you wouldn't hear it unless you taped the watch to your ear at night).b- a stop watch

Chest heart rate monitor
Started back riding an assist e-bike. Iโm 78 years old in pretty good health. I wanted keep a check on my heart rate with riding to make sure I donโt overdo it. It is light weight and comfortable donโt even realize that Iโm wearing it. It will let me know when I reach my maximum heart rate.

Attractive and economic chest strap HR watch with some major problems.
I bought this HR watch because it has a huge LED screen and it was easy for me to see. Also considering that it is a chest strap HRM watch, the price was very attractive.it has very basic features, such as time, chrono, alarm and HR. nothing else. The watch itself seemed to be made with decent material however the band seems to be too ridge and cheap feeling to it.the screen is very big and the numbers are also huge and easy to see. However, the four buttons were too sensitive to press that unintentionally the screen can be changed. That was one of few problems that this watch has.For me, the biggest issue was heart rate monitor. Supposedly, since it is chest strap monitor, it should be very accurate than wrist HR monitor, but it was not. It was so erratic that the HR number were swinging between 88 to 210!!! while I am driving a car. However, when I was playing tennis, it measured between 110 to 140 which is acceptable. But in normal condition, when I am not doing anything, there are huge changes on HR for no reason.Another issue is that chest strap does not have the "click" buckle type. As you can see in my photos, it has very strange looking, proprietary buckle (I do not know how to call it) that you have to click them together in order to get it on your chest. That is bit hard and tough to manage. I do not understand why they did not make it with a simple buckle type.Anyway, this watch could have been a decent HR watch, but it has few major problems.

Satisfy essential needs
I have a polar heart rate monitor watch, but want to buy this as a backup since the old one is not functioning so well anymore. After a week of usage, I conclude the following:1. The heart rate monitor is accurate. I believe this is the most important thing for the watch.2. The watch is can be set to alert when heart rate reaches higher or lower limit (per user presets).3. The lcd display is clear with backlit.4. The heart rate strap is comfortable.5. One thing I wish this watch to provide is the recording of exercise detail (I.e. workout duration, calories burned, heart rate changing status), but it doesnโt seem to have the function yet.6. The watch has the chronograph and alarm function. In conclusion, this HRM watch does satisfy the essential needs of tracking the heart rate, it could be a 10/10 if it tracks the workout performance. I like it for its affordable price.

EZON watch and chest strap is a good place to start.
It's hard to find a reliable and reasonably priced "stand alone" HRM and watch, most seem to need a smart phone with GPS and apps and monthly fees.I'm not a runner but an avid long distance walker and need a HRM that will let me know whether or not I'm maintaining my walking heart rate at an even, slightly elevated, level.Preferably a watch that has a big bold font and only requires a glance to see my heart rate.Initially I couldn't get a consistent reading with this watch, my heart rate readout was all over the place, but I found a solution:Open the wrist band to it's widest position and push the band up to your elbow. This brings the HRM and watch receiver closer together, resulting in a more accurate reading and bonus easier to see. Also, it took me a while to figure out how to turn the watch off - just press all four corner buttons all at once until it turns off - but you might delete all your settings - so not a good idea.Next thing was setting the time -Press the left side top button and hold for 3-5 seconds to enter the settings mode.Press the left side bottom button and press again to select the time setting.Press right side top button to increase value.Press right side bottom button to decrease value.Overall I'd say this EZON HRM watch is a good basic place to start, before spending hundreds of dollars on a smart watch that you might not need.Hope this helps if your undecided ...

Good value
Large character display, Large buttons for control, simple, but complete set of functionsExcellent value for the moneyCon: Heart rate takes up to a minute to displayCon: picks up interference from other devices if you are too close to them. My car radio for example, or an electric shaver.Time of day, Stop watch, Heart rate monitor. Very useful for exercise.I use it for walking exercise over a known distance course. I use it to time my performance and monitor my heart rate.TIP: forget about spit or salt water. This device needs conductive gel. Easy to find and buy on Amazon. Not expensive. Works very well and takes very little. Adjust the strap so that it is tight enough that it stays in position.I tested the battery from the wrist device after 7 months and it was still at the expected 3V level. No instructions are provided for changing the battery in the wrist device.Remove the backremove the white plastic cover from under the clips.Lift the edge of the clip where you see the reset displaySlide in a new 2032Reverse to finishUpdate after nearly a year of use:That conductive gel is very useful. Use it very sparingly thoughThe chest strap has a 2032 battery in it. Very easy to replace. I use min HRM every other day for about an hour. That chest strap battery is good for maybe 3 to 6 months of use. The 2032 battery is available everywhere and costs very little. I buy mine in the dollar store for 3 for $1.25 Cdn. When that battery starts to fade, you will see all kinds of strange behaviours.
