Not what I expected, but that is a good thing!
When I bought the book (Kindle version) I expected a kind of lightweight making of the LP book, like those classic albums type of books. What I got was so much more so, and much more rewarding: an in depth and fascinating look not only into the psyche of Bob Marley leading up to his exodus, or more of an exile, in London, but also a well written bit of history - of Rastafarianism, the politics and social goings on in Jamaica and other places at the time, a bit of religious history which includes Muslim and Jewish insights, a bit on Marcus Garvey which really covered who he was and what he did without being overly academic, Pan-Africanism, and so much more. What is great about this book is how it shows how all this tied into the making of this incredible album, and all the possible meanings or interpretations of it. Ms. Goldman did a terrific job here balancing all this material so well, and should be commended.

Bob Marley
This is a birthday gift for my husband. He has had this and another book on his wish list. He loves listening to reggae music. Bob Marley is one of his favorite artist. He also loves to read so putting his love for music and his favorite artist together will b his all time collaborations in one.

Read it along with other bios
Nice first person account of a period in Marley’s life. It should be read along with other Marley biographies so you can get the total picture. You do get a better grip on the band after reading this book, since they are individually profiled. Not sure what to think when she posts a statement like, 90% of US prison populations are black? Shows lack of research or poor editing by the publisher.Average Marley bio.

One love many loves!
A great review of Bob's life in a critical time. Great music created out of chaos and uncertainty of life that has endured the test of time and is as current now as it was when created. A true rocker that had vision and inspiration to bring his music to the world! Thank you Bob and thank you Vivien for a view into a pivotal time in the life and career of Mr. Marley.

Wonderful Book!
This is a well-written and well-researched book. As a musician, I have always been interested in the dynamics of the band itself--who did what, the creative licensing and freedoms each member was able to take, etc. This book provides a window into the Wailers and it will make you appreciate the Exodus album just that much more. Great read!

Exodus: The Making & Meaning of Bob Marley & the Wailers' Album of the Century
I just finished reading this book and I thought the coverage of Marley's musical life and progression was excellent. Vivien Goldman's passion/love for Bob Marley & the Wailers and their music shone like a star. Heartfelt and moving, this was one of the best books I've read about this prophetic man and his life. So well done, thanks for writing it. To songs of freedom...

Excellent book. An insider's intimate view of what led up to and the making of one of the best albums of popular music.

Present for my Marley-afficiando husband
He loves it. Said it had enough fresh-take or new info that it kept him interested and reading all the way through. My added comment is he read it through a time of having to work 80-hr weeks, so it must be good.
