Amazing Spider-Man By JMS Ultimate Collection Book 3

My new Spider-man addiction
Before purchasing this collection, I had only read a few Spider-man stories written by JMS, mainly the issues of the Civil War tie-in arc. I have never read Spider-man stories written this well in a LONG time. This is a GREAT collection of Spider-man stories that will have you racing through each and every page. Originally, when I purchased this book and read the reviews, I was not too enthusiastic about this collection. I still wanted it, but I expected to read B and C level stories. However, I was pleasantly surprised. The first third of this collection features art by John Romita, Jr. and delves further into the mystical nature of Spider-man's powers. The next to arcs that complete this collection are illustrated by Mike Deodato. His art is amazing as well as John Romita's. The highlight of this book is the "Sins Past" which is, in my opinion, one of the greatest Spider-man stories of all time. It is very emotional and action packed. The last story "Skin Deep" is a heartfelt story that deals with one of Peter's former classmates. I don't want to go into too much detail in order to prevent spoilers, but this is a great buy and well worth the money. This was the first JMS Spider-man collection I purchased, and I am definitely going to collect the other four volumes.

Okay
This is good issue from the reboot franchise to purchase from of Spiderman. It encompasses a series of volumes in it. Just make sure the seller ships your comic and it arrives in one piece with no forms of damage of any kind!

A bit so-so...
This volume is one third John Romita Jr. and two thirds Mike Deodato. One third is the end of the Ezekiel arc, one other third is giving an unsettling explanation of Gwen's death and the last third sees the unwelcome return of a forgotten, former classmate of Parker, geekier than Parker ever was. As ever, Parker's resilience goes in overdrive throughout the turmoils. Though not as good, in my opinion, as the first two volumes of J. Michael Straczynski's long run, the book remains a good read.

Good run
JMS' run on Spider-Man was quite good, I felt that he nailed the character of Peter Parker as he was going through some rough times. JMS always does well with character development, his Thor run is even better (even though "creative differences" with Marvel caused him to be unable to finish the arc).

One good story is overshadowed by two bad ones
JMS Ultimate Collection continues with three trades The Book of Ezekiel, Sin's Past, and Skin Deep. I feel like the other reviewer is being way too generous on this trade. The best trade collected here is The Book of Ezekiel which is a closeup to Spider-Man: The Other. While it is a somewhat predictable story the art by JRJR is great and it's the best trade collected here. Speaking of stories with great art the second storyline Sin's Past has great art as well but that is it's only saving grace. I don't want to retread on what I already wrote in my review of it but it was a horrible idea (even for a comic book) that damaged characters and screwed with continuity for shock value. At first I thought it was a story that had to be read to be believed but you really don't. The third trade is Skin Deep which is a storyline that again shoehorns in continuity from the past in a bit of a haphazardly way but at the same time it's only somewhere between the two. It doesn't leave much of a impression on the reader but at the same time I felt like JMS was making a effort to try and tell a good story.

The most amazing one yet
Jesus Christ, this book is amazing. If you're already at the point of buying book three of this collection, you know how good JMS is and you don't need me to tell you. But this book epitomises his style, what he's been building Peter Parker up to, and is flat-out amazing. I even teared up a bit at this one.

Nice work
the author has created a interesting tale of how the Spiderman and Peter Parker would be when writen more down to earth and real. If looking for a break from the standard smash and save of the day type of story, then here you go! the tale is here! Ps: Great Art!
