Best Money I've Spent on a Mattress
As a member of Vine I have reviewed a lot of mattresses and of all of the mattresses I have received for review, the Zinus mattresses are the ones that have seemed to impress us the most and stay with us the longest. My son still has the very first one we reviewed from them for his bedroom and refuses to part with it. So when it came time to buy a mattress for our master suite there was no question with what brand we would be buying. I already knew I liked the brand and could count on the quality. While I had not personally had this particular cooling mattress before I am a very hot sleeper so it was the one I decided to go with and their 12 inch mattress had served us well in the past.If you've never ordered a memory foam mattress online don't be surprised when it comes in a very heavy but smaller than might be expected box. When you open it, it looks like what I call the beef jerky of mattresses in there. Don't let the looks deceive you. The mattress will expand quickly. You want to get it into position before openining the seal. Once you do it's going to start to "inflate" at a rapid pace.We put it on the box spring (also made by Zinus) and as we had anticipated it began to expand. Within an hour I could lay on it comfortably (if it was a bit firm). By nighttime it achieves more softness and takes about 48 hours to a week to achieve full softness but you can indeed sleep on it the first night.I did not notice any odor with this mattress, and trust me I'm prone to odor induced migraines so I'd notice if there was a problem with chemical smell. I had a mattress once that I had to leave in the lanai for a week to air out. This one wasn't a problem at all. It may have a very mild odor that I didn't notice because I'm stuffy but if there is any it's really not at all noticeable enough to comment on.As far as comfort, I love this. I suffer from chronic pain. I need a mattress that bounces back to form quick so I can roll over to another spot and not sink back into the spot I was in. This does that. I would call it a medium firm. Soft enough to cushion but firm enough to give support. In my book it was money well spent. I was lucky enough to have the luxury of testing a few different brands before making a purchase but I have to say that even if this cost more than it did I still would have chosen this one. Well worth the price when mattress stores are charging five times as much if not more for comparable mattresses. If I run into problems I'll update my review as always but so far so good.Edit 1: So I've been having severe hot flashes at night for a while now. Before we got this mattress I'd wake up at least four or five times a night having a major night swear and unbearably hot. Since getting this mattress that hasn't happened to me once, so (at least for me) I can attest to the fact that the cooling effect does indeed work. I'm by no means cold but I no longer wake up feeling as though someone has suspended my body over a lava pit. What has happened however is that I now wake up with a sweaty head and am now in search of the perfect cooling pillow to go with this mattress.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Comfortable, Supportive, and a Great Night’s Sleep
I was very impressed with this mattress from the first night. It expanded quickly after unboxing and had very little odor. The medium feel is a great balance not too soft and not too firm so it provides good support while still being comfortable.I also like the cooling memory foam. It stays comfortable throughout the night and doesn’t trap as much heat as I expected. The mattress fits my queen bed frame perfectly, and the quality feels excellent for the price.I’ve been sleeping much better since switching to this mattress. It provides good pressure relief, and I wake up feeling more rested. If you’re looking for a comfortable memory foam mattress that offers great value, I would definitely recommend this one.

Great mattress for the price!
I would say its a little more on the firm side. Its also a little shy of a full 12in but my wife and I really enjoy sleeping on the mattress. It's not life changing but we don't wake up with any aches or pains. There was an odor when we first unboxed it. Its not bad but it smells like a boxed mattress. We let it inflate in the guest bedroom for ~72hrs and now you can only smell it if you smash your face into the mattress and even then its super faint. I don't feel "cold" sleeping on it but we are unfortunately subjected to a hot bedroom and I would say we don't wake up in a puddle of sweat anymore, which is nice.

Five Year Review
I purchased this mattress (12" Queen) in early 2020. After five years, I figured I would finally provide a review.INITIAL OBSERVATIONS:You do not need to spend $4,000+ for a decent quality mattress. What matters most are the materials used in the construction of the mattress and your own preferences of size, cooling, firmness, and other features. Keep in mind this is my own experience with this mattress over five years. The mattress arrived in a box. Packaging held up well. At the time that I ordered, there was no "white glove" or similar delivery option, so my package was placed at the foot of my stairwell. I can't fault the delivery driver for not delivering to my front door since I lived on the fourth level of a walk-up and the mattress itself is quite heavy. Just be aware that if you have a similar living situation and do not see an option for in-home or in-room delivery, you may want to have one other person help you with set-up.Opening the packaging, including the plastic wrapping that protected the mattress during storing and transport, was easy but nerve-racking due to the extreme pressure of the contents. Be sure you have the packaging in the exact spot you intend to place the mattress and that no lose objects are nearby as things could go flying once opened. No insects or signs of wear and tear were noticed. The mattress appeared brand new (as expected). The mattress took about 48 hours to fully "form" and seemed slightly taller than 12". The cooling effect was not noticed compared to other mattresses that purportedly have this feature. The off-gassing (odor from newly opened mattress-in-a-box) process lasted for no more than one week and the odor wasn't terrible during this time. Be sure to air out the room the mattress is in for at least a few days if the odor bothers you. Also keep in mind that this is normal for mattresses in boxes. The mattress was very firm for at least one year with nightly use by one single male (6'0", 180 lbs). The mattress gradually softened over time. Mattress protector and bedding may have slowed the softening process.FIVE YEAR OBSERVATIONS:After five years, I can say this mattress was an excellent value. A quality mattress protector is HIGHLY recommended for any mattress and this was no exception. The outer cover that comes with the mattress is not necessarily a mattress protector and is likely not water proof or even resistant. The brand claims that no fiber glass was used as part of this mattress but many similar mattress do use fiber glass. I do not recommend taking this cover off of the mattress since dealing with loose fiber glass is a nightmare and difficult to resolve effectively. Most bedding purchased over the years fit the mattress just fine and I never had issues with fitted sheets or protectors slipping off.No excessive loss of firmness or sagging was observed with regular, nightly use. The edges are still firm and no degradation of materials was noticed. Since there are no springs, noise levels are low to non-existent.This mattress has survived at least three moves with no issues. Cleaning the mattress was not necessary for me due to always using a mattress protector. However, baking soda and a vacuum are all you need to refresh your mattress if necessary. Flipping or rotating this mattress has not been necessary for me but your experience may vary depending on use.Sleep quality has been fine. No soreness or discomfort was experienced that could be attributed to the mattress itself. If sharing this mattress, you should not feel the movements of another person depending on their size and proximity to you. I never felt like I sunk into the mattress. This mattress lived atop wooden slats on a metal frame. Firmness can change slightly depending on what the mattress sits on. It is unknown (to me) if the mattress is compatible with adjustable frames. Why Not Five Stars?Rarely does a person find the perfect mattress. There are too many variables involved. A lot goes into the manufacturing of mattresses and there are many kinds. Quality can vary greatly and many features are purely marketing. This is a solid mattress for the price and is great for when moving out on your own for the first time or for a spare bedroom. This is a perfect mattress for those who prefer firm to very firm. Many of my guests commented on the firmness of the mattress, indicating that they did not like the firmness. However, I preferred the firmness.Since there are no springs/coils, there is practically no bounce. Keep this mind for intimate times with a partner. The mattress does not seem to provide any "cooling" despite what is advertised. Therefore, you may want to avoid this mattress if you get hot while sleeping. Bedding can potentially help with this, though (cooling and breathable mattress protector, low thread count (<200) natural fiber sheets (NO POLYESTER OR SIMILAR), alpaca duvet, etc.). I regularly got too hot during sleep, even with the room cool (60-70 degrees Fahrenheit). This mattress is finally being retired into a guest room as I upgraded to a mattress made of better materials. I don't intend to get rid of the mattress anytime soon and suspect it will last at least another 5+ years with no issues.Hopefully this review helps you decide on a mattress. Mattress shopping can be very involved and stressful since there are so many options, many of which are costly. Best advice for the shopping process is to try mattresses in-person where possible.

So comfortable—we bought it twice!
We have this mattress in our guest room and have always gotten compliments on how comfortable it is, so when it was time to replace our old mattress in the master bedroom, we ended up buying the same one again. I am SO glad we did!Our old mattress was extremely worn out and I would sink into certain areas, so I wasn’t getting the support I needed. I had trouble falling asleep, staying asleep, and would often wake up with sore back muscles or even muscle spasms. This mattress has the perfect amount of memory foam for me. It’s not too firm, but it still provides the support I need, and it allows for enough movement without disturbing my partner in the middle of the night. Since switching to this mattress, I’ve been sleeping so much better and waking up feeling much more comfortable. I’ve only had one morning where I woke up with the same kind of soreness, and that was related to a separate health issue rather than the mattress. We absolutely love this mattress and would 100% buy it again! (Even though we did already 😉)

Review from someone with a spinal fusion...."firm but soft" defined and gel understanding for everyone.
I found it very difficult to research this product because I've had a L4, L5, S1 spinal fusion. So my review may not be appropriate for everyone, but from the viewpoint of a spinal fusion and consumer, I offer the following....Delivery was great. The mattress unrolled pretty easily and I expected to see the sides curled up while it "settled" for the recommended 24 to 48 hours, but it did not. It's firm, yet soft. The best way to describe this is that it's a transition. From spring to foam, right? The first dozen times you will plop down on the bed and get a thud/plop instead of a familiar bounce, then you'll be initiated ton this verbiage, "firm, but soft" It's not hard. It's not bouncy. It's firm...but soft. Not a bad thing - just different.I looked into switching to a foam bed because I understand the methodology of removing metal in the bed from resting on metal in my body. Metal on metal is never a good thing and some cellulite and cotton only mildly defuses that, right?? Who initally thought it was a good idea to ever sleep on metal spring, right? But this didn't work for me...at all. I could not roll easily from one side to the other, with a pillow tucked between my knees, as I regularly sleep. I was waking up every single time I attempted to readjust because the memory foam is comfoming, as it's meant to be.But for me, this doesn't work. I need to move.It is also VERY hot.I reached out to Zinus and was asked kindly, to give the bed at least 30-days to "learn my body".It was also explained to me that the bed is designed to provide a restful sleep...with little to no movement....in one position.AND... I kept hearing that same statement and logic from the salespeople in stores I visited while seeking a mattress. I heard over and over that if my pup or significant other/spouse/partner would move in bed, that it would not disturb the passenger's sleep. In hindsight, this should have been a warning to me.This bed is designed to cradle you and provide uninterrupted sleep. By finding that "sweet spot" and letting the bed "work" - it should reduce movement long term AND the gel will do its "job" as a cooling agent, if I gave it more time. The bed was hot. My secondary complaint. Sooo hot. The gel in this bed is supposed to help that, as this was a common complaint of foam mattresses a few years ago and there have been obvious improvements as we are all seeing the spike in sales for foam mattresses. But here's the take away kids....movement is going to disrupt the gel. It's fluid, right? So if you stay in one position, the gel should regulate your temperature...UNTIL someone goes to bed after you, or your furry friend jumps on/off the bed, or your kids join you, or you get up to pee or take a drink of water or check your phone or, well, move, at all. Any movement will cause the gel agent to move too. Ever try to stop water in a long path? That is basic logic. So consider that and determine the variables in your sleep habits as you make a decision. If you like everything about this bed and the gel is a factor in your decision, Zinus does offer the same bed, sans the gel, just search the same item and look for the one that doesn't have gel. It actually has nearly 6k Amazon (neutral users versus Zinus vested interest reviewers) and it yields 4.5/5 star reviews. I thought I'd live large and upgrade to the gel. Understand the role of gel and make a good decision for you as I failed to do that. While the reviews here are largely positive, I'd like to see more data about how long the user has had the bed. How long it took to find the sweet spot. How long that transition took, etc.As a spinal fusion sleeper, I lasted two and a half nights. On the third night, I was so miserable that I blew up the air mattress and have slept on that, waiting for my new bed. I could barely walk the second day because I was so incredibly sore and physically and emotionally tired from not sleeping. While I feel that is NOT a great benchmark, I do think it speaks to the mismatch between my body and this mattress in any type of long term scenario. There is no way I can give up 30-days of sleep, or 100 as these commercials advertise, so me and my bed can bond and learn to love each other. That's a third of the year miserable...minimally. To me, not a very good sales technique, very gimmicky, but great marketing. In any event, I've worked with Zinus and Amazon and I'm waiting on a innerspring coil mattres with "comfort foam" and not "memory foam". Back to old school springs with padding around each spring, to hopefully provide some movement and flexibility. While sleeping a night, uninterrupted, not moving sounds heavenly, it is not a sleep I've know for over a decade, prior to, or after the fusion. I barely wake up as a I flop around like a fish out of water all night long, but if I have to sit in one position for any length of time, in or out of bed, I get stiff. I need to move before the aching sets in. This is a basic fundamental understanding of my body.Don't be sold on "no movement" if you are designed to move. You know your body and you know the difference between poor sleep because of a poor mattress/it's time to make a change and you have to move before the natural attrition of pain is produced through your body as something you've learned to deal with. Listen to that and hopefully you'll get the right mattress for you!I will write a review on the innerspring coil bed for anyone who is helped with this unique instrumentation viewpoint at a later date.

Sincerely resolved 10 years of back pain
Shopping for a mattress and trying to decode online reviews is miserable. I feel like so many reviews are fake. Mattresses are very personal. It might be great for one person and horrible for another. Here are my two cents.I bought my mattress from Amazon with my own money - I don't get paid for reviews. I am 5'10" and 200 lbsFor many years I would fall asleep easily. I would sleep till morning and upon waking up, I'd have so much pain in my lower back that I didn't want to get out of bed. The funny thing is, getting out of bed was exactly what I needed. I'd slowly get up and spend about 2-3 minutes stretching to try and ease the pain. I would then spend the rest of the day with slight to mild lower back discomfort. Now the strange part was I could sleep on a love seat with my legs hanging over the side and I would wake up with little to no issues. Often, I choose this option. Even though that helped me, I wanted a mattress. I wanted to sleep in my bedroom. So many years ago (maybe 6) we bought a spring mattress from a mattress store and paid in the $500 range. We were told it was the top mattress in that range. Sorry I don't have the details. It did not help at all. Then we bought a $1,200 bed that you controlled with air inflating and deflating. Again, no improvement. Then we bought a hybrid spring, foam mattress and it worked for a short while but dented easily. Then I was back to square one with constant pain. We gave this one to my kids and they Love it.**Actual review starts here** Sorry! Now we purchased the Zinus 12". We have had the bed for two months. After my first night sleep, I woke up and felt like a new person. It was amazing. Everyday since then, I have woke up and not had a single issue with my back. My back pain is COMPLETELY gone. This is something I've dealt with for 10 years and it's gone. I can jump out of bed and go straight about my business. No stretching, no advil. I'm blown away. Now I will say that everyone that lays on the bed says, "wow this bed is hard". That is everyone's first impression. The thing is, it is hard for a second but as you lay on it, the foam slowly pulls you in. I fall asleep on my back and usually wake up on my side. I will say, that sometimes I wake up on my side and there is some discomfort in my shoulder. I simply flip over and the discomfort is gone. You don't notice other people in the bed. If my wife flip flops, I don't even notice. After reading a million reviews, we settled on the 12" foam. It seems most people agree that anything less is not enough. I'm not sure about the green tea stuff. It is not something I notice. Maybe it is working and I don't realize it. I will say we waited 48 hours before using the bed. Initially when we opened it up, I was concerned about the shape. It was messed up to say the lease. After about 16 hours, it was perfect.Pros -Back pain gone!!!PriceBest sleep I've ever hadNo smell after first 12 hoursCons-Initially hard to the touch - but then it pulls you inCan't think of anything else.Bottom line -As I said before, mattresses are personal. All I can say is this one has done wonders for me. If the foam fails after 12 months and I have to buy a new mattress, I would buy this one again without a second thought.

Sleep like the dead
This review is for the 12 inch, full size model. I have waited a month to review this mattress, in order to avoid prematurely declaring it a great buy. 30 days later, I can say without hesitation that this is the best mattress I have ever owned. Some background:-I am 5'11, 165 lbs.-I am strictly a side sleeper.-Previous mattresses prior to purchasing the Zinus were a Stearns & Foster (cost over $2000) that felt amazing in the store, but started to cause pressure point pain within two nights of use. Kept it to avoid the hassle of returning it until I could no longer deal with it. Next was a King Koil Laura Ashley model. Oddly, it was an improvement over the Stearns and Foster in spite of the cheap price, but it developed sagging issues and my pressure point pain never really went away.Fast forward to my purchase of this Zinus 12-inch mattress. I was extremely hesitant to purchase a mattress without trying it out first. I figured (based on the price) that it would be a cheap imitation of a Tempur-Pedic, Casper, Bed in a Box, etc. Yada yada, I decided that nothing could be as bad as my last two mattresses and purchased an entire new setup from Amazon (frame and mattress).I opened the mattress immediately upon delivery (took about 6 days) and placed it on the frame to decompress. In 30 minutes, it had "puffed up" to 10 inches, and within an hour and a half, it measured exactly 12 inches from top to bottom in all four corners. Paranoid and unfamiliar with memory foam, I decided to let it just sit there for a full 24 hours to avoid messing it up somehow.I did not notice the funny smell mentioned by some reviewers. In fact, I didn't notice any smell whatsoever. This mattress has completely relieved all of my pressure point pain. I actually look forward to going to sleep now instead of dreading it.It's firmer than I thought it would be prior to ordering, but definitely not overly firm. There is a "give" when you roll onto your side, as with all memory foam mattresses, but it's more of a "cradle" than a "sink." As far as the material "sleeping hot," I do notice it somewhat as compared to my old innerspring mattress, but it's not even close to being a deal-breaker (i.e., I haven't woken up sweating a single time). No body impressions, no sagging after one month. I think it's even more comfortable now than it was 30 days ago, if that's even possible.I have one serious regret about this mattress... that I didn't buy it sooner.

Still very comfortable after 9 months!
I purchased this mattress in November 2025 and wanted to wait until I had used it for a while before leaving a review. After more than 9 months of regular use, I can genuinely say I’m very happy with it.The firmness is just right for us. It’s not overly soft and not too hard either. It feels firm and supportive while still being very comfortable to sleep on. My husband loves it as well, and it has continued to feel great even after months of use.So far, we’ve had a really good experience with it and I’m very pleased with the quality for the price. I would definitely purchase it again and recommend it to someone looking for a comfortable, supportive mattress without spending a fortune.

Way better than the stock one
Replaced the mattress that came in our trailer with this one and it’s been a massive upgrade—way more comfortable and supportive, no more waking up with a sore back like the flimsy stock mattress used to cause. The cooling gel memory foam actually helps too, not waking up overheated in the middle of the night like before. Setup was easy, expands and airs out quickly once unboxed with barely any smell. Feels like a real quality mattress despite coming compressed in a box, holds its shape well and doesn’t sag in the middle. Great affordable way to make trailer sleeping way more comfortable, would definitely recommend if you’re stuck with a cheap factory mattress.

Bigger size, different firmness
My partner and I bought this mattress 5 years ago in the queen size and it was awesome. It was soft but firm and we were able to sit up properly in it. We wanted to upgrade so we went back to the same link and chose the king option. We unpacked the bed, let it fill out to full form and put in our room, only to lay on it and completely sink into it. This is not the same firmness even though its the same style just in a king. We are not very pleased with this change or mistake in shipping. If your product changes you should let people know in the description.

I bought this based on the price and some of the reviews. Can't speak on longevity since its only been a couple weeks. The mattress out of the box took about two hours to almost fully expand. With a little walking and rolling on it, it was ready to sleep on the first night. Not super soft but not firm either and seems to support in all the right areas. There was no odour out of the plastic like other memory foam mattresses. Cover is nice and soft, however notes it should not be removed to wash so I am purchasing a zippered mattress cover to go over that so that it can be washed if needed. For the price point this is an excellent mattress and do not have any of the complaints others have noted.

Good matress but...
This mattress is monstrously heavy. A two person job for sure. I did it myself and struggled. I had to walk it to my bedroom. Getting it up on my boxspring was a challenge. Once you get the outer plastic off and start to peel the rest off, you realize that it's going to be upside down when you get it done. The only way you can do it. Flipping the mattress so the cover was on top was very hard. The final step of taking the plastic off the mattress was further frustrating because it had to be pulled out from under the mattress. Now to the mattress itself. This mattress is rated as medium firmness. I would disagree with this immediately. My light frame of around 133 lbs. does not sink into this mattress, rather I lay on top of it. Laying on my back, my butt sinks in but thats it. I sleep on my side so it feels firm mostly. I would rate this as a "firm" mattress. I'm going to buy a 2" mattress topper to try and get a softer top. These opinions come my years of experience as a mattress salesman.
