I sprayed with some leather protectant for my kiddo getting on and off the bus during the rainy season, and the water easily beads off. She had a water bottle leak in the bag, and it completely dried out with no long term damage whatsoever. The straps are padded, the zippers are smooth and substantial, no complaints.
