great pack, great price
I live in Alaska and I carry a lot of gear when I go fishing, partly because I am out all day and the weather is changeable and partly because I carry a lot of safety gear such as first aid, survival gear, etc. I have been struggling to find a fishing bag that can carry all this stuff and often end up carrying a backpack as well as a sling pack; it's not exactly ergonomic. This pack can handle all my gear and it's very comfortable, you barely know you have got it on your back. the durability of the fabric is good but some of the stitching could be reinforced especially on the attachment points on the outside of the pack. the only other thing that could be improved is that I would like to see an attachment point on the shoulder straps to clip a set of hemostats or some nippers but what do you want for your money.

Great Pack!
Perfect pack for day trips. Tons of pockets to keep fly boxes etc. in place where you can grab them without having to dig. Enough rooms for anything you could need. Comfortable to wear all day. Great value.

Not a sling. It's a well made backpack that is over-qualified for 95% of fishing trips.
Let's be honest--how often do you have to hike miles to some mountain stream for a multi-day fishing excursion and need to pack the kitchen sink? Not very often. But if you do, this is your backpack. Yes, I say "backpack" because it is not a sling by any stretch of the imagination--more on that in a moment. As a fly fishing backpack, this deserves 5 stars. It has everything you could ever want in a fishing backpack. Amazing extendable rod tube pockets that work, storage to spare (it's got pockets inside of pockets), a place for a hydration bladder, and the fact that you can clip your Allen chest pack (sorry-sold separately, guys) to the front or back is ingenious. And, like other Allen products, the build and quality are top-notch with heavy-duty zippers and tactical ripstop fabric.Ok, now about that "convertible sling pack" feature...no. If you want a sling, buy a sling, because this ain't one. Firstly, it's WAY too large to even quality as a large sling. Secondly, there is no way to get it to wear like a sling. If you crisscross the shoulder strap and tuck in the other like the instructions show, the opposite edge of the pack peels away from your body and sways, probably hitting you in the back every time you take a step. If you tuck in one strap and leave the other clipped to the side it should be on, then wear it across your body, it works better, but you still have the top or bottom part (depending on how tight you have the strap) sticking out and hitting your arm every time you move it. Sure, you can do the sling move and rotate it around to access a pouch, but the tradeoff isn't worth it. AND, if you're planning on wearing this while you fish, just make sure the water isn't above your butt, or you're going to soak your rod tube and possibly the bottom of the pack. So, in short, buy this in a heartbeat if you 1) feel the need to be geared to the nines, 2) really just want a do-everyting fishing backpack, or 3) plan on frequently needing your entire fly-fishing arsenal at your fingertips...errrr...on your back.

Awesome, so many pockets inside.
Ought this backpack for work/laptop. It didn’t have any pictures or the inside when I bought it but I like the Allen strap I got for my gun so for the price I thought I’d give it a shot. Super surprised when I opened it up and theses plenty of room for my laptop and more tones of pockets inside.

Good and Bad
First off, my bag came with stitching coming loose on the top pocket. So I will be returning this one.I bought the Blue Mesa pack for three reasons. Carrying alot of tackle comfortably, being able to drink from a hydration bladder and being able to carry extra rods.Although it does have an access hole for your hydration bladder, it doesn't have a bladder hanger. So your water bladder falls to the bottom of the pack making it difficult to zip up the main compartment with your 3600 size tackle trays. The waist strap is nice. The sternum strap has a G hook and it's difficult to remove with one hand. I would have preferred a regular buckle. The front pocket is deep and nice for carrying a fishing net. There is also a lined glasses pocket on the top.Overall it's a nice-ish bag. And it will carry a ton of 3600 trays if your not carrying a hydration bladder.I haven't decided if I will be exchanging this bag, or trying something different.

A minimalist fisherman's friend
This pack is compact, light and perfectly laid out for a minimalist fly or spin Fisher. The drop down rod tube holders on each side are a great addition. I do a lot of hiking through low hanging tree limbs and such and while I carry my spinning rod in hand I can also carry my fly rod tube securely and still have room for my reel & fly boxes in case I want to switch. My rain coat rolls neatly at the bottom with compression straps (which are liberally located around the pack). It swings easily to convert to a sling pack and the zippers are good and sturdy. For a full day, carry all excursion this pack will accommodate everything you need. I really like it. Comfortable, sturdy & well made.

Great pack for hiking into fish esp when combined with a chest pack
I own sling packs, chest packs and high end fly fishing packs. However, this one has more features and costs less. I like the fact that I can take one of their chest packs and attach it to the front of the pack. When we pack into lakes or streams, we carry an extra rod and just stow the pack on the bank. I then grab my chest pack and fish with all my rain gear nearby. Perfect combo!

Love this pack
This thing is great. Tons of pockets for all the knick knacks, probably a dozen separate compartments with zippers. Feels real solid, zippers are large and sturdy. The 'rod' holders on both sides are a little unnecessary I think but I've utilized one of them for my folding net and the other I will just keep as a bottle holderOnly complaint is it is pretty heavy on its own but from what I can tell its due to the durability of the thing, you can just tell its well built. 10/10 exactly what I was looking for, and now I have something to ask for xmas from the misses (the chest pack that attaches)I will say that the pictures do not do it justice. The colour is nicer in my opinion (a little darker) and the material is much higher quality than what I'm seeing in the pictures.

Really good… not perfect but really good.
Good solid pack with more than enough pockets and features such as the drop down rod holders etc. super comfortable on my 110kg frame and still so after 10-12km days.Bought the micro chest pack that clips to front, yes separate purchase but that’s pretty obvious despite what a couple of other reviews say, not sure how you can screw that up thinking it comes with the chest pack unless you only look at pictures….For me an ideal system just what I was looking for. What it needs….A net loop. Yes there’s the carry handle strap at the top but bet I pull that off tugging net of magnet.More elastic loops on straps to tuck loose/excess straps into.Could be approx 20% bigger in the main compartment. Lunch, light jacket, hydration pack, all good but once I bailed out of some other layers on a warming day got a bit crowded. Not a major issue. It’s not designed as an over night pack so plan for the day ahead and what “has” to be carried. All in all really pleased with the purchase, the quality and the system
