Midnight Blue Semi Permanent Hair Color - Vegan & Cruelty-Free Conditioning Hair Dye, Lasts Up to 35 Washes, 3.5 fl oz

I originally tried to get my hair highlighted blue at the Aveda salon, but the first time it turned out a mix of green, blue, and yellow. I went back to ask them to fix it and came back with pale purple hair which faded to ashy blonde after just a few days. At this point, I was pretty annoyed so I decided to try dying it myself. After looking at multiple reviews online, I finally settled on this one. The color ended up being exactly what I wanted. I have black hair and it blended nicely with the rest of my hair. (The parts that were dyed had been bleached at the salon so it showed up.) It didn't stain nearly as badly as the other reviews say. I did it in the sink and it washed off right away. I did end up staining the shower a bit, and the dye comes out a bit when you wash your hair with shampoo for a few weeks. The water ran blue for a while. I found that it lasted a week or so before starting to fade slightly. My highlights faded at different rates so now I have pieces of hair that are purple, gray, light blue, green, and aqua. It's pretty cool. I also used sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner to maintain the color. I would definitely recommend this but you should know that it will probably fade after a few weeks. The dark color didn't stay in my experience.

I've been coloring my hair for years and have application brushes, gloves, a dye bowl. Additionally I keep everything handy for clean up and am very careful. My usual hair color was out of stock on Amazon which is a dark blue / black semi-permanent. I thought this might be a good bridge until it came back in stock and maybe the blue would be fun. First off - Pro's: There was enough product for my hair. It was inexpensive. It arrived quickly. No mixing required. Claims to be gentle on hair and not tested on animals. It didn't seem to dry out or hurt my hair, which is good. It said it dyed easily and that's true. It took to everything it touched and colored it blue. Cons: This particular pigment, Midnight Blue, stains immediately anything it comes in contact with and is almost impossible to remove. Despite two pairs of gloves and rinsing my hair for ten minutes + and using soap and conditioner, as soon as I touched my hair after washing with my bare hands they turned Smurf blue. I rinsed some more. I washed my hands with dish soap, and tried fingernail remover -- but it's days later and my nails are still blue and my hands are blue tinged still. (I painted over my blue fingernails and the blue dye leached through... amazing) Even a single strand of hair that would fall out would stain anything it touched. My kitchen sink that I rinsed my hair in was an unholy, unfathomable mess. It still has blue stains after I bleached it (and let the bleach sit). I realized anything I came in contact with was turning blue, despite having thoroughly rinsed my hair. I jumped in the shower for nearly an hour and rinsed and rinsed and rinsed my hair with various soaps, conditioners, oils -- I tried a bunch of stuff to remove the blue. The blue did partially come off my grey hair and areas that I had tried to cover, so now my grey roots are back ;-P lol Everywhere my hair had splashed in my shower turned blue. (Despite having rinsed it thoroughly before showering!) It looked like exploded blueberry Smurf. I have not been able to get the blue removed from the shower. My shower is some sort of plastic and just took the stain instantly. After washing and rinsing and washing and rinsing -- I finally did get the blue off my face and neck -- whew. I thought maybe the worst was behind me. I dried my hair and got on with life, but the blue was still there. And that's how my recliner was ruined. I had dry hair after many, many washes and it still stained my brown chair. It also took out my sheets on my bed and anything else I have touched with my hair and head since then despite thorough washing. The blue dyes instantly and is insidious. Anything that touches it stains and spreads it. I would imagine that most of the dyes this company produces are not this bad, that this midnight blue is probably just exceptionally noxious. So to recap, my shower is an unholy mess that I haven't managed to clean and may potentially be ruined as far as appearance goes. Bleach did not fully remove it from my kitchen sink, recliner is stained blue, and my sheets are ruined etc. Although it didn't ruin my hair, it will be an expensive mess to deal with for awhile.

I had been debating dying the ends of my hair a bright color for over a year, but couldn't get up the courage to do it (FYI - I'm long since out of high school and worried I'd look ridiculous at my age). After reading a bunch of reviews, I went with this dye, thinking if it was terrible, I could always cut the ends off. To my surprise, I loved it even more than I thought! I put the color on right over my dyed-medium auburn hair (no bleach first) several inches up from the bottom, but left it on for about an hour (the package recommends 15-30 minutes) to get better saturation. The color turned out rich and gorgeous, far from the angsty teenager I was afraid I might look like. I was concerned about how quickly it would wash out, but it faded subtly and turned a nice shade of almost green-blue over the next couple weeks. I had to do my all-over color again, so it striped out most of the blue, after which I re-colored the tips. Perhaps because the second time I was dying over recently colored hair, but I found the color kept washing out (LOADS of blue in the shower & stained tiles!) much more than the first time around. In addition to the great color and staying power, I was incredibly impressed with the smell (like child's grape cough medicine) and how well it left the condition of my hair - if anything, I think my split ends are in even better shape! All in all, I'm very happy with this product. It's been so much fun, I may try some other colors out at some point. And at this price - why not?!

TLDR: Very easy to apply, it smells wonderful (fruity), and the color is as pictured. HOWEVER!!! It stained EVERYTHING! Would not suggest ever using this product indoors unless you're looking for a reason to deep clean. Use leave in conditioner to help reduce transfer (worked for me). I definitely should have listened to the reviews about the staining and taken them seriously. Technically speaking... the color pay off is definitely there hahaha. I had no problems during the application process whatsoever. Its a bit thick, similar consistency to a hairmask. Smells very nice and definitely easy to tell when you missed a spot. One thing that I love about these kinds of dyes is there isn't any rush. I can really take my time and be sure that I'm happy with my coverage. I've used quite a few different dyes, but this brand takes the cake for staining. I understand that there will almost always be color bleeding/transfer but I've never experienced something like this before. Listen, I know that you'll need to let the cold water run over your hair for a while to make sure all the excess dye is gone but it would just NOT run clear!! I spent about 15-20 minutes scrubbing my hair under the faucet watching all the dark blue go down the drain. Once it started to run a nice pale blue I figured "Yeah, good enough!!" and decided to turn the water off. The entire front area of my tub was stained blue (with smeared handprints of my struggle haha) and so were my hands and arms. I thought that was the worst of it till I got a look at myself in the mirror. I was about as blue as a smurf You could see blue staining of where the water ran down my face! I quickly grabbed my makeup wipes and started going to town scrubbing away. I felt like I was just smearing the color around instead of actually getting anything off, so I pulled out the big guns. I grabbed some paper towels and rubbing alcohol and continued scrubbing. Finally starting to see some progress, I relaxed a little. It was very short lived as I began to notice that anywhere my hair touched left bright blue stains. Dejected, I once again shoved my head under the faucet. It was time to subject myself to more staining... I grabbed my shampoo and began to lather it on like there was no tomorrow. I don't usually do this unless the instructions say so but I was desperate at this point. My hands were back to the same dark blue, I was getting frustrated (and sore). I grabbed at my conditioner and slathered that ALL over my head and through my hair. I made sure to leave it on a bit before washing it off. While I let it sit, I tried to wash off my arms and hands with my body wash but it didn't really do much. After I washed out the conditioner I saw a noticeable difference in transfer on my hands. Satisfied, I once again turned the water off and got to work at the rest of my body. I used rubbing alcohol for my ears, neck, arms, and hands. For my face I used makeup wipes and lots of soap. (I have sensitive skin). I bleached the absolute daylights out of my sink and tub and I can't even tell if I got it all off. I'm almost convinced my tub is still slightly blue. I want to once again reiterate that I have NEVER experienced something like this before. I have used red, black, purple, brown and blue dyes from all different brands and have not had this happen. I've even had Manic Panic reds, blues, and blueblacks before yet never experienced this level of staining. I most likely will not be using this brand again. If I do, I don't intend on using it indoors.

I’ve tried a few different Punky products now and I’ve come to appreciate their high quality and great value. Two out of the three colors I’ve used had a great scent and left my hair feeling nicely conditioned. The Midnight Blue was not one of them. My hair felt somehow drier than before I used the Midnight Blue dye. The scent was not particularly remarkable either. My biggest complaint about Midnight Blue is how horribly it stains EVERYTHING. Your bathtub/shower, your towel even after you’ve already taken 10 showers, your pillows, your hands and fingernails…people remarked about how blue my hands looked for 4-5 days after coloring. Even though I wore gloves when applying the color. It literally looked as though I had painted my nails for several days afterward. I rinsed my hair for 30 minutes after finishing coloring, but the dye just continuously comes off in every subsequent shower after that so your hands will never be rid of blue. It truly, truly gets everywhere and I was never able to get the blue stain out of things. I couldn’t even run my fingers through my dry hair for a few days because they would come back blue. The blue color takes about an hour to fully saturate the hairs. If you don’t let it sit long enough, then it won’t stay dark blue for very long and/or the color fades to sky blue (as in my photos). The dark blue lasts for about a good 5-7 days, but falls out very quickly after that. If your underlying hair is bleached and you have even the slightest hint of yellow in it, it will give a weird green/blue hue to your hair as it fades.

I got this dye thinking it would be good to have one that is semi-permanent and is vegan, can only be good for my hair, right? So putting it in my hair and letting it stay there for 30 minutes was fine. It all began when I washed it out. I usually wash color out with my head upside down over the drain, it has worked better with tub clean up with other dyes, sure I get a little water in my face but the dye mostly gets in the drain. I get out of the shower thinking sure it dyed my tub more than usual but it’s only one spot. I look at my hands and they are covered in dark blue, I then look in the mirror and see my face has been turned blue as well! That is a first for any blue hair product! So I get my kolor killer wipes and get the blue mostly off my face, just a tint now. I put my hair up and see my back has also been dyed! I gave my hair a while to dry while cleaning up all the blue on me, I then took another shower and shampooed my hair twice, it was running clear again so I get out and no blue face this time, but my hands again are blue, I put my hair in a braid so it’s not touching my face, wait a few hours and then go to bed with mostly dry hair. I wake up with more blue on my face, hands, and arms! I spend most of this morning cleaning all the blue off, my hands are almost blue free now, I then put my hair up in a messy bun to get it off my neck and just doing that dyed my hands again!! I’m going to have to wash my hair a couple more times today and pray it doesn’t rain when I’m out with a client so I don’t get blue all over my face. Will not buy this again! Please read this and save yourself the hassle I went through!

I recently started using punky color. Previously I used to use Manic Panic but it would wash put of my hair so quickly that I would end up having to re-dye my hair every 3 weeks. I work outside so I pretty much have to wash my hair everyday because I can't stand the feeling of sweat in my hair. I started using Punky color after Manic Panic raised their prices and I couldn't afford to buy them anymore. I read many reviews one of which said to mix it with conditioner, doesn't matter which kind, any cheap conditioner would do in a 20% dye/80% conditioner ratio. This helps the dye last longer in the hair and spreads out the use of the product. I tried it and honestly was surprised by how long it's lasting. It's been almost a month and the colors are still sooo vibrant. And I've barely used a third of the container. My only complaint is that the blue is a little too dark and kind of blends in with the purple in my hair. Be prepared to sleep with a towel on your pillow though because it takes about 3 washes before the dye stops bleeding.

I've used two other Punky Color shades and loved them; green, and atlantic blue. They were vivid and easy to apply, and the transfer was no worse than you'd expect. But Midnight Blue? Never, ever have I experienced something like this. The application was fine, but as soon as I rinsed it off, everything it touched looked like it had been a casualty in a blue ink explosion. My body is stained Smurf blue, my hands look like I opened a BIC pen and used its ink as hand lotion, and my bathtub is, quite possibly, unsalvageable. I spent 30 minutes scrubbing my face, hands, and neck with rubbing alcohol in order to look presentable in public, and as soon as I wet my hair again I had to go through the exact same process. I woke up this morning with a stained face from where my hair touched my skin, and if my bedding hadn't been black I am CERTAIN it would be ruined as well. Seriously, I can not overstate how terrible the transfer and staining is. I have been dying my hair for well over a decade, have used all imaginable shades and brands, and have NEVER had an experience like this. My hair looks great and the color itself is exactly what I wanted, but my god, the price I paid was NOT worth the result I got. Not by the longest of long shots. Never, ever again.

If you wanna go crazy and luv ur hair color please try this brand easy to apply and note that it only work on highlighted hair and light color hairs, very quality it doesn’t damage your hair it’s simply a WOW

Used it on a pre bleached hair. Great colour and also works as a very good conditioning treatment. All dry and frizzy hair got treated well, had not expected that.

So far I love it... the color ! wow.. going to try other ones in future. also stays in good and so far long too. I put this color on my mixed bleached hair and i let the color stay in a bit longer too.. and came out nice and bright.. Let me know how it goes for you!!

It was very dry when i applied it. i washed my hair 9 times and it still bleeds everywhere. My tub is stained... all my towels and my clothes. when i dried my hair the color comes off on my neck and my face. if i touch my hair my hands go blue. it really is a nightmare. it is everywhere.. like INK. do not do this at home...better to get it done at salon.
