Does the bottom of the opening side fit into a bracket or something?

Yes, both the top and the bottom go into brackets, making the gate secure. I have these gates on three doorways in my house to close off rooms that I don't want my dogs to go into. They are sturdy and have done a great job holding up against my dogs leaning against them.

Can anyone with a gate after the 2016 design change upload a photo of the hinges (which reportedly don't allow the gate to be lifted off easily)?

I have bought this gate repeatedly for over 10 years.I just bought one in feb 2019 and the hinges are the same.

Our gate is impossible to open with one hand only and it is not sliding well at all, is this typical with this gate?

I actually have three of these gates. It is easy to open if u squeeze, push toward the wall and then open.

Is the gate still 32 inches after it is installed?

The top of my gate as installed is 35 inches from the floor.
