## Questions & Answers

**Q: Hi, just starting using this on seedlings. Is it safe to use all the time? Wont seedlings get root rot or they wont develope a long root system pls?**
A: Root rot doesn't occur as the plants take up just what they need. Keep an eye on the plants and when the roots start coming outside the pot, either repot them into a bigger pot or plant them in the garden. I had a problem during the hot weather when the roots were growing into the capillary matting, so I had to transplant them quickly. The matting works best if you cover the whole surface with pots. If you leave bare spaces these can dry out in very hot weather  and the system doesn't work so well.

**Q: Hi, can this be used in a gravel tray for while on holiday for 12 days please? And when im back for months non stop till they go in the garden pls?**
A: The simply answer is no. I'm assuming the plants are in a greenhouse/undercover so will not benefit from any rain. Just lining a tray with capillary matting and gravel will not 'supply' water sufficient for a 12 day holiday. It would be OK if you have someone to come and check it every couple of days and water as necessary. Alternatively, you could set up a wick system with strips of capillary matting to continuously add water from a reservoir to the matting in the tray. This would not last for 12 days, IMO, but might do 3-5 days depending on how hot it is and how big your reservoir is. The system will work fine for longer term watering when you can check on it daily or every few days. At the end of the growing season, wash the matting (preferably in Citrox P or similar), dry and re-use next season.

**Q: How thick is this  matting**
A: I don’t know exactly but I used it last year in the bottom of planters before filling with compost it was very high quality good level of padding maybe 1/4” perfect for purpose and strong not thin would recommend

**Q: My pots' bottom drainage holes are raised by 4mm, will this material make sufficient contact with them to work?**
A: I’d say yes - the material is thick so the pots slightly press in to it.  I found the mat worked brilliantly.
