Absolutely excellent!
This is the book I have been looking for. This book very clearly describes the techniques I needed to put into regular practice to improve my piecing skills. For example, I have always wondered about the "skant 1/4-inch seam." How wide is that? How can I be precise in my piecing if the measurements aren't precise? ARGHHHH! Then, along came this book. I read it cover-to-cover and immediately put some of the techniques into practice. Ms. Collins explained how to cut the pieces properly so you can sew precise 1/4-inch seams and forget about trying to find that mysterious skant 1/4-inch! This may sound silly, but I experienced an "A-HA!" moment while fine-tuning my rotary cutting skills using the information provided by Ms. Collins.WARNING! There are no "short-cut" techniques here. This is definitely NOT a book for someone looking for how to do it faster or quicker. It is a book about how to do it BETTER. Ms. Collin's clear descriptions are enhanced by excellent photos and diagrams.I also bought Ms. Collins' book "Borders, Bindings and Edges: The Art of Finishing Your Quilt" - another book I wholeheartedly recommend.

A Huge Help
I began quilting last year. I have three small children at home so taking a quilting class to learn the basics was out of the question. I was frustrated with the quality of my early quilts so I began searching for a book to help me with my piecing skills. This book was invaluable! I read it cover to cover and am amazed at its wealth of information and how the accuracy of my piecing has improved. I love this book! I learned how to cut accurately (a big problem for me), the tools I needed, and pressing instructions (no more steam!). Now that I am desiging my own quilts I love the book's section on color selection and auditioning blocks. This book is my go-to book whenever I am beginning a new project. I had no prior sewing experience but now I am turning out some pretty respectable quilts, all thanks to Mastering Precision Piecing.

Precision Piecing/Collins
I received my copy of "Precision Piecing" in the mail and immediately read it through. I had challenged myself to improve my quilting product, and decided to begin by improving the basic construction blocks. I have challenged myself to make a "LeMoyne Star" quilt one of the most difficult blocks to piece, with it's "Y" seams. I have completed 20 base blocks and have cut and ready to sew, the alternate blocks, and have enjoyed the process. So far, my piecing looks square and true, and the blocks finished out to true measure. This will be my ongoing project for the winter months. I look forward to the finished product. Sally Collins book is precise and detailed and was a great inspiration to me.Sincerely.Joy SternerPueblo, Colorado

Precision Piecing
This book is intended to give an overview of piecing methods and I found the author's suggestions quite helpful. Makes a quilter slow down and think a bit more of how important it is to be precise in cutting and piecing. I found the directions for making some of the examples a bit difficult to follow and reviewed the information with a quilting group I am a part of and collectively we were able to figure out some of the descriptions. Overall I found the information useful.
