it will fit a 9x12 baking dish...would not go bigger than a 12 to 15 pound turkey

No it isn't safe to close the cabinet doors. It is a oven and it has to vent, and the top of it does get warm. You can store it in a pantry cabinet only. Got to remember it is an oven.

How does this oven perform for homemade things like baked chicken, fish, meat loaf, meat balls, casseroles?

Perfectly! Even though the interior is a bit small I just use smaller pans, etc. I even use it for my breads, cakes, etc.
