Love this slow cooker!
UPDATE 9/29/2024: This slow cooker is still going strong. I still use it regularly and it still works and looks like I just bought it. I still get asked about it every time I bring it to a potluck. It still holds heat like a charm. Hubby has occasional chili cook-off's and potlucks at his office and he uses this to carry his creations to work and keep them warm. I have no delusions that my cooker is being treated gently when he heads out with it, but it always comes back ready for me to wash up and put away with no visible battle scars. The last few times I have used the cooker at away from home gatherings, I have utilized taking the lid completely off. This makes the unit even easier to use in the serving line. It is so easy to remove the lid and then reattach when through. Removing the lid also makes this cooker even easier to clean. This unit sells itself when you see how well it retains heat. The insulation is phenomenal. The price may make you stop and think, but the build and the cooking performance make this a no-brainer buy if you slow cook and/or transport food. I have not been compensated for my review or purchase. This is my honest opinion. UPDATE: I have now had this 8-quart for two years. It works just like new and I still love it! My only wish that would make it PERFECT for me would be to have an auto warm feature after the cooking time was complete. That would enable me to use this at home while I am at work; but that would require it to be more digital. I ordered this a year ago and I still love it. This is the easiest slow cooker to travel with and the insulation does a great job keeping things warm. When I show up with this little gem, I always get quizzed on where I got it. If you are planning to travel with your meal in a slow cooker, this is the cooker you need. It rides really well in my car and the lid stays on nice and tight. Size wise, I use this like a 6 quart. I was not compensated in any way for my review. Update: This little beauty is still going strong. I use it regularly. The insulation around this thing must be why the food stays so warm. It's still a breeze to use, clean and carry. I see that the price has gone up substantially since I bought mine. Even at the current price, it's still great if you are looking for a slow cooker that cooks nicely, retains heat well and travels easily. Not a lot of cooking bells and whistles on it - it's just got off, warm, low and high- but it cooks well and still looks like new. It does what it is supposed to do well. That's more than most appliances can say.

So clever and practical!
I've been wanting to purchase this for almost a year but I was waiting until it went back on sale. I'm so glad I've finally been able to get it. I wish I'd known about it when it came out! I've gone through a regular hassle using conventional slow cookers over the years for various reasons. Most notably and the "straw that broke the camel's back" has been the ordeal of transporting a conventional slow cooker (both empty and full, both hot and cold) from home to an event and back without risking making a mess or damaging any part of the cooker (especially its controls). We regularly have events at my work where slow cookers are used, and while I enjoy the cooking and competition, I dreaded the transportation and clean-up. Not only does this Presto travel-ready slow cooker resolve that stressful transportation scenario in all respects, it improves the overall slow-cooker experience in ways I hadn't even considered. Notably, the Presto is much lighter than a typical slow cooker, likely due to having a metal rather than ceramic inner "bowl". The handle is sturdy and feels good, and the size and shape make it very transportation-friendly, especially compared to the awkward oval- and circle-shaped typical slow cookers with just the small hands on the sides. The power cord even goes back inside the bottom and has a clever clip to hold the end in place, so no more having to wrap the cord around the pot or through the handle or any other nonsense solution. The dry-erase board and included marker are a brilliant touch. I also liked how the two locations to open the lid are at the front corners of the lid, where they'll be cool and easy to reach. Not only that, this location at the front corners nearly eliminates the chance of getting one's arm bathed in steam when opening the lid of a hot device, as is de rigeur for most other slow cookers (as the lid handles are almost always in the center of those lids, and there's no way to escape the heat when opening it). Again, such a clever touch that also fits the aesthetic of the design. I already put it to the test and it did such a marvelous job. It warmed up quickly on the highest setting, it kept warm as designed, and the shape allowed for easy stirring without making a mess. I did a package of ground beef (along with the beef stock and other ingredients), and it was almost like the cooker was designed for the size and shape of the "loaf" of ground meat. Clean-up was a breeze! The lid comes right off without tools (just open it all the way, and lift straight up), and the gasket is easy to clean out. The metal "bowl" - as mentioned before - is nice and light. All the surfaces around the cooking area are flat and easy to wipe down any splashes. Best of all, no tools are required to remove any major components, not even a screwdriver as I've had to do on prior slow cookers to remove the handles for cleaning, for example. There are screws holding on the cover for the power cord storage area, but they don't have to come off to facilitate pushing the cord back into its home. My sole tiny point of dissatisfaction - and it's almost trivial, as it's a personal affectation rather than a design flaw - would be the tension mechanism for the handle. Unless the handle is fully vertical (90°) the lid (and handle) aren't locked in place. So - for example - if I wanted to carry the device from underneath, then the lid could bounce around while walking unless the handle is fully upright. In the same vein, as the handle has to be fully upright to seal the lid down while cooking, it could possibly get in the way or possibly be an unintended target when moving around the cooking area; that said, the upright handle does serve as a partial physical barrier to putting anything on top of the lid while cooking (which is flat rather than concave like most other cookers), so that's a plus. The handle design does remind me of the Igloo coolers that this design is inspired by where the lid could only be opened/removed if the handle was fully folded down in one direction, and the mechanism would keep the lid tightly in place otherwise. However, I personally wish that the Presto had some sort of rotating ratchet or other latching mechanism at the hinge so that the handle could be locked into place at different locations (even if just the horizontal and vertical axes), and that it would also allow the lid to be locked down regardless of handle position. Again, this is largely a nitpick, but as clever and genuinely delightful as the design is ("it sparks joy!" ) it's the sole aspect that doesn't shine entirely brightly. TL;DR: I'm so glad I bought this, wish I'd bought it before, and look forward to many years of traveling with it!

I traveled successfully through a field with soup and had ZERO SPILLAGE.
Chokma! I started going to Native American sweats and I drive into a field with soup in my car to get there. I bring soup or a dish and we share a potluck meal after the sweat. My previous crockpot was the “Crock-Pot 7 Quart Oval Manual Slow Cooker, Stainless Steel (SCV700-S-BR), Versatile Cookware for Large Families or Entertaining”. My previous setup was a small black tub/tote with yellow top. I put a 10 lb weight in it, then a towel, then crockpot pot. Saran wrap, crock pot lid, towel fold over, then bungee cord over top and secured onto sides of tub. This was very effective setup for bringing food to functions. It's not effective in the slightest for transporting soup by car through a field. Like at a point in my travels I pull off the road into a field with rolling hills. I've been to 4 sweats, brought soup to 3. First two times, soup in the floorboard. The second time was actually the worst. Enter this product. Besides the obviously superior traveling capabilities, this thing fantastic. Here is what I loved: 1. 8 qt! Looks same size as my 7 at but shape makes it more manageable. 2. NOT HEAVY! Even when full of soup! My last setup did have a 10 lb weight in it but this is SO easy to move around. 3. Lid locks. Handle goes both ways. So easy to carry. It’s built like a cooler. 4. Lid is removable. I used a lot of butter for my soup and was sloppy serving. I was concerned about getting the housing all clean since the cord conveniently can be stored in a compartment at the back. Turns out lid is removable and was super easy to clean every surface. 5. THE SPOON HOLDER IS GENIUS. 6. Dry erase board on front. 7. ZERO SPILLAGE. It's not just driving through a field. There is also an earlier turn off of a highway that is basically a U- turn and comes up way fast and wierd because it's usually just then fully dark when I get to that part. My destination is an about an hour outside of a city. First time, soup got on the towel and in my tub/tote but nowhere in my car. Second time, Soupocalypse. Third time, zero effort. It was SO NICE to not have the anxiety of driving on turnpikes and country roads with soup in the car. 8. Stayed warm! This was cooked, then stayed warm with no electricity to it for 4-5 hours before we ate. Was served off the bed of a pickup. Was still good and warm. This is great for so many things. 11/10. I’m definitely going to be getting the smaller size too with a sticker that says ‘I’m a little cooler’. ♥️ Coworker’s idea ♥️

For the on-the-go mamas!
I prefer this over my crockpot! I originally purchased this as my on-the-go option. With daily practices I needed a slow cooker that is large enough for a meal for 4! The 6 quart size is perfect for my family. I LOVE it. The metal insert is so much more preferable than the ceramic design of other brands- it’s non stick, easy to clean, and great durability for car rides and nights at the ball field. The lid comes off for easy cleaning. It travels well with the moveable handle. No lasting odors as each part is easy to clean. The price was less than other more well known brands. I will likely purchase the smaller size as well to add to my on the go arsenal!

Pricy yes but it is a slow cooking & travel dish rockstar 2019, updated 11/2023
Long review, but I hope it gives you all the details my friends asked me or what I originally wondered about my beloved Nomad 8 traveling slow cooker since 2019. I have gifted the 8 quart to many brides and friends, who all fallen in love with it too. Pros: Still going strong for over 4 years since purchased on Presto's Amazon site. I took a chance on it after seeing one online as there weren't many reviews on a crazy slow cooker that is in a cooler 😀. It's heavily used, as I have toted it all over, basically put it through many potential leaks; still going strong as a cooker and doesn't spill or leak in transit. Trust me, I'm always late and even if you drive like a bouncy Baja desert racer like me; it will NOT leak if the handle is up & locked. Over the last 40 years, I have had several traditional slow cookers that were inconsistent in heating, burning food, this slow cooker has been as I expected for cooking temp. I've stopped using my traditional slow cookers since getting this one. I've taken it to a regular monthly potlucks since 2019, host has minimal plugs to use. I've unplugged and food is impressively holding temp 2 hours later. A nice bonus to the metal pot insert, I can place food in the oven to quick cook, then put it into the slow cooker sleeve to keep it warm at my functions. I haven't tried cooking over 350 degrees or broiling, just playing it safe. If you just want to take it without cooking in it, Presto had recommended in an Amazon review, to have the insert in to warm it, because it may get too hot. I warm the carry shell by either plugging it on high into my Bronco for the drive or with my food in it for about 15 min before leaving home. The actual cooker, doesn't get very hot on the outside when plugged in. Excellent lid design features: Locking lid handle compactly folds all the way to the side like a cooler. Lid, it flips up for people to serve and stays on the unit so the guest isn't fumbling with it. Guests close it more often, than traditional; they aren't fighting to a spot to sit the awkward old style slow cooker lids, bonus for heat retention. The plug cord is a decent length at about 36" measured for this review. I prefer the 8 quart size over 6 quart as the inner non stick pot is simply taller than the 6 quart. So even if your receipe is for a smaller slow cooker, because of this design. I like minimal appliances because of my storage, so you can use the 8 quart, saving you from having several large slow cookers to store. I like the white board to write your dish name on it; helps folks with allergies too. A normal dollar store dry erase pen fits into the holder. Every now and then, it needs a magic eraser to clean up the ghost writing. I like the straightforward knob to know its on and temp. Tech challenged hubby will use this over my pressure cooker all in one, every time. All other brands with the lights just fade after awhile and you can't see them anyway. Cons, 2 are not deal breakers, 1 could be: Love the concept of retracting the plug/cord into the unit for transport or storage. However, the cord fights the hidden storage area, starts off pretty decent, but then when you have about 8" that still need to go in & doesn't really go inside well at all. I just snap the plug into place anyway, at least it isn't tripping me walking, so it's not a deal breaker. It's easy to forget the spoon holder and hosts throw it away. I finally found a replacement 2 years later (11-2023) on Presto's website www.gopresto.com So that isn't a deal breaker either, replacement decently priced, shipping wasn't too bad on GoPresto 11/11/23. 2023 new deal breaker? I was REALLY surprised how the price jumped since 2019 59.93 to 89.90 on Amazon. A lot of people will not "splurge", thinking I won't spend that much on a slow cooker I can buy under $30 at a box store or it may be just a novelty that doesn't work well. Sadly, I'm concerned, this awesome leakproof, easy to run, great slow cooker will likely fade into the sunset. Hopefully if you have read this review this far, you can find a good seasonal sale or Black Friday pricing by Presto.

Not really an 8 QT but still an awesome 6QT crock pot!!!
let me start off by saying this thing is awesome! I love how light it is and that the handle serves tow purposes. it both acts as an easy way to carry it and it locks the lid on. You do not have to have the handle vertical in order for the lid to be locked. you can pull the handle all the way towards you and keep it locked while its in the down position as well. to unlock you have to push it vertical and then all the way back away from you. I tested this connected to my solar generator for the purpose of taking it camping and on the warm setting its only pulling 41watts which is great so it wont drain the battery. On low its pulling 241 watts and high its pulling 281 watts which i thought was interesting that between those 2 heat profiles there was only 40 watts difference. Also to note on their website it said max power draw was only 200 watts which clearly isnt the case here. I have a hamilton beach crock pot that even on warm is pulling nearly 300 watts so this thing should be perfect for camping. I will have to say the reason im not giving this 5 stars is this isnt a true 8 quart crock pot. the instructions clearly indicate do not overfill the the insert. there is a max line indented into the porcelain insert. at that line its only 6 quarts. you have to exceed that line and you can put 8 quarts in here BUT you really really dont want to do that because you probably would spill everywhere. it would defeat the purpose of making it spill proof. So because of that i have to say this is not a true 8 quart this is a realist 6 quart crock pot. no way in hell or heaven on earth can you make this 8 unless you are going to cook with the lid off.

So awesome!
Absolutely love ❤️ this crock pot! The best to travel with! I had so many people ask where I got it and how awesome it was during the holidays. I love the spoon rest tray and the condensation collector at the back so it doesn’t go all over the counter or back into your food. The lock handle over the lid makes it so easy to travel with, NO SEPARATE LID, it’s all connected while in use and easy to remove if needed or to clean. And who doesn’t love a cord storage, they thought of everything with this crockpot ☺️

Can't live without
Where do I even begin. We were looking for a portable option to have meals / tailgates on the go. In doing research we came across the Pesto Nomad series of slow cookers. After reading some reviews we purchased on and started using it. This cooker is awesome. Features we love Locking lid with the handle Insulated Drip container on the back of cooker Easy clean The dry erase board on the front We have used this cooker multiple times and it has worked flawlessly. Our kids are in travel sports. We spend way too much time at sports complexes. We were tired of living off concession stand food. This cooker is being used to make team lunch or dinner. How do we accomplish this task? I generally prep everything the night before we leave. When we wake up of a morning, I get everything in the cooker at the house and turn it one while we get ready. When we leave, we move the cooker to the car. Remember this is a 120v cooker and probably will draw more watts than what your car outlet will provide. It uses about 250 watts on high. We use a battery generator (Bluetti brand) to power the nomad in the car. The food will finish cooking while we drive and play the first few games of the day. When we get a break in the schedule we tailgate in the parking lot with the them. All the players and parents are appreciative of the real food and not concessions again. Meals that we have made on the go. Walking tacos (tacos in a bag) Pulled Pork sandwiches Chili Italian Beef Chicken Noodles soup etc The Nomad will heat until about 200 degrees Fahrenheit then cycle off and back on as needed. Depending on what you have inside this can take sometime to reach that temperature. The Pesto Nomad is sturdy, convenient for travel, easy to clean, and is now one of our favorite cooking devices. We have the 8qt model to feed large groups. We highly recommend this slow cooker if you need one to be portable. YT Sports Dad Reviews for video

Great Find!
As a camper I was thrilled when I found a crock pot that looked like a cooler! I have cooked several things in it and found the temperature to be spot on and it is very easy to clean (just pop it in the dishwasher - no more heavy ceramic to deal with!). I am really looking forward to using it camping this year - cooking inside my trailer and then easily carrying it out to the picnic table for a meal! Great product by Presto!

works well for travel
Sturdy, easy to clean. It is slow "slow cooker" so give it time. Started at home then finished on the road through the car outlet converter. Tasty!

It travels well!
I’ve used it once and it did fine. It’s squat shape and locking lid make it perfect tp take in the car with no fear of roll overs. If I had to find a fault at this point, it needs a pilot light.i

Box got damaged
Received it this afternoon and I’m disappointed that the box got punctured - it’s supposed to be a Christmas gift... Otherwise, I cannot comment on the product yet until the gift recipient tries it out.
