Exactly what I needed - big improvement over older types of elevated toilet seats
This replaces a larger older plastic raised toilet seat and boy is this an improvement. The old raised toilet seat had a screw in the front that I would scrape my leg on when getting out of the shower, and it was too high for me, and a nightmare to clean. Also there was no lid. I wish I had replaced that horrible one earlier with this one - my toilet is no longer a huge ugly eyesore but looks more like a normal toilet since you can use a normal toilet seat and lid on top of it. It was as easy to install as a toilet seat and once you secure the bolts, making sure they are very tightened, it does not move around. The height is perfect so I don't hurt my knees. The hinge design makes it easy to clean the toilet. This is excellent.Update: Still pleased with this, but it is not as strong as I had hoped. The top of this now has a dent & crack in it caused by one of the plastic seat bumpers on the normal toilet seat placed above it. It still works well and the dent isn't visible except when I clean the toilet, but I am betting I will have to replace this in a year or two.

Riser works great with the Medline Toilet Handle Safety Rail Grab Bar.
The "Carex Health Brands Hinged Elongated Toilet Seat Riser, Adds 3.5 Inches of Height to Toilet, 300 Pound Weight Capacity, Raised Toilet Seat, White (FGB32100 0000)" works GREAT with the "Medline Toilet Handle Safety Rail, Grab Bar for Bathroom, 26" to 31" Adjustable Height, 250-lb. Capacity, Aluminum". I had ordered both hoping that the bolts that come with the Carex Toilet Seat Riser would be long enough to fit the Medline Grab Bar, the Riser, and my current several-years-old toilet seat and lid. Fit great! with even bolt length to spare! Easy to install. The hardest part was removing the bolts from my toilet seat itself. My husband cannot put weight on one of his legs while a leg fracture heals. All three are very sturdy and provide necessary weight support for my husband to use.

Hey Buddy! Need a Lift?
As a long time neuropathic (sciatica, hip joint arthritis, etc) who lives alone, it was a matter of time before I had to get a seat to help me and my lower body for myself after living in a household where an extender was absolutely necessary. What I remembered about that was the unibody construction of it was solid, but the metal screws that held it in place, and had to be moved for monthly cleaning, would get rusty and difficult to take off. I'm not sure why it was never discussed to get a hinged lid to knock that out, but once I got on my own, that became my priority. So I opted for this one, and it's been a Godsend. I can keep up with this every other day and, for the most part, as long as I don't shift my weight quickly while seated (which generally only happens when I lose my balance or pass out), it stays put like the unibody extenders. This really does the trick and makes it much easier on my hips and back. Give it a shot for the ease of cleaning alone!UPDATE (20 July 23): It’s time to replace this, purely because I’m a firm believer in good hygiene, and not because this doesn’t do the job. As noted above, cleaning is an absolute breeze. The only true knock against this is that any sudden shift in weight will cause it to slide away just far enough to stress the metal bolts, but that has only happened a couple times. Also, I had the elongated version, but it still didn’t completely cover the bowl to the front edge. Not a dealbreaker, unless aesthetics is a big deal to you. But yeah…this is worth it to me! Second one will be on its way soon!

A Simple And Sensically Designed Riser
Firstly, I am satisfied with the product, so I gave it a 5 rating. But, my toilet seat was not as simple reusing it as some of the reviews experienced. I had to reduce the outside diameter of the included washers to have a 0.0810" OD because of the toilet seat attachment, not a fault of the product. While merely a pain for myself (for the same reason I bought the riser), people not accustomed to improvising might find it better to hire someone with skills in such installations. Overall, installation is fairly simple, the height is great, and I like that it can be raised for cleaning.

One Happy Lady!!!
My Carex Elongated Hinged Toilet Seat Riser arrived today. I installed it myself, and it was very easy to do. Mind you, I am a 69 year old handicapped woman, and I installed it easily!! I absolutely love it. I have severe problems with my spine due to cancer and it was getting harder and harder to sit on my 20 inch high toilet. The extra three and one half inches make all the difference in the world. It isn't as ugly as my 92 year old mother's five inch riser, which must be picked up and set aside to clean under it. As a matter of fact, you hardly notice that it is there!! With my regular seat and lid installed over it, it appears to be normal. I like the hinged part, too, as it will be much easier to keep clean. I was afraid that my feet would dangle as I am now 5'3" tall, but they reach the floor easily. My other hesitation was that it wouldn't be as well attached, but there is absolutely no movement!! I did use the plastic wing nuts that came with my toilet seat as someone mentioned that the metal ones would rust in time. The metal washers wouldn't fit into my seat, so I left them off as my seat had nice rubber cut outs to place between the riser and the toilet. Everything went so well and I am so proud of myself!! If I can install it, anyone can!! I highly recommend this Carex riser. It is a winner!!

Hard plastic slides Easily on Porcelain
Review based from installation as received and installed it today. The bolts that come with the product were a little larger diameter than the holes that go thru on the hinges on your existing seat. Might not be a problem this time but if the holes were any smaller, I would have had to ream them out in order to get the bolts thru. The holes on the riser are big enough for the bolts to go thru. The riser is hard plastic and sitting on the porcelain it slides very easily so you have to tighten the bolts a lot to keep the riser from sliding around. Sliding with weight on the seat can break your toilet. There is a little lip at the front on the bottom of the riser but is not enough to catch on the porcelain.I am replacing a riser that just sits on the porcelain, but it came with rubber sticky pads that you attach on the riser bottom that significantly keeps it from sliding. Plus there is a lip on this riser that keeps it from sliding off when someone is sitting on it. These rubber sticky pads DID NOT come with this riser so again you have to tighten the bolts a lot to keep it from sliding.I have a Folding & Portable Bathroom Safety Handrail Grab Bar that sits around the toilet so this may allow one to sit on the seat and stabilize themselves as they conduct their business. Lets hope that works! With all that said, the riser opening is larger than the seat opening so one is not restricted by one of those risers that just sit on the toilet. Big winner! Also the riser is hinged so that makes cleaning a lot easier. And it looks nice and you can close the lid.I'm hoping for the best with this product.

Essential for anybody with knee mobility issues.
Makes using the toilet much easier for people with knee mobility problems. I would give this 5 stars but found that I also had to change the toilet seat as the bolts supplied with the riser did not work with the toilet seat. If you tighten the replacement (longer) bolts supplied, they spread the arms of the toilet seat hinge, and the bolt covers would not close. I view this as a design defect in the toilet seat.

Knee Issues ..... Get this
I had the other raised toilet seat that was not hinged. Worked great except the plastic tabs to hold the seat stationary were a nuisance and the toilet was a chore to clean. Finally one of the tabs broke. I had to replace, so I noticed this hinged seat, bought and installed, plus I could use my original toilet seat too. Awesome buy because now I can lift the raised seat to clean the seat and the toilet. Good purchase and comfortable. So, if you have knee issues or other issues that makes it difficult for you to get up from low toilets, then, buy this hinged raised toilet seat and solve your problem. Oh yeah, very easy to install.

No definitely not to buy
I had vvv bad experience with this product. The product is not secured at the hinge with any screw but has a small knob which just snap if one shifts on the side,Would not recommend to anyone specially old or one with disabilities.

Healing a lot faster now
I hurt my knees and the muscle in the top front of each thigh. Using the washroom with my regular height toilet seat was torture getting down and up again. Every small bit of progress I was making being confined to the couch was being lost every time I had to used the washroom. There's no way I could wait to buy a tall toilet and get it installed (or afford that 10 times higher price). Someone suggested this riser idea so I took a chance and ordered the one that seemed right for me. It arrived very quickly, it was a breeze to install (and I'm not that steady on my feet right now !). I'm not re-injuring myself every time I use the washroom anymore. Once my injury is healed I'll remove the riser again and tuck it away until I need it again. It's been a real help.
