Yale Assure Lock 2 Touch Deadbolt, Satin Nickel Keyed Smart Entry Door Lock with Bluetooth Connected Touchscreen Keypad and Fingerprint Scanner for Code Entry (No Wi-Fi), YRD420-F-BLE-619

After trying a number of fingerprint locks, I settled on the Yale-August smart deadbolt for my primary lock with separate keypad. Although not the most convenient setup, it has otherwise been perfect in function and performance. For a basement door, I had been using another smart deadbolt with keypad, but I really wanted a fingerprint lock for this door. When the Yale 'touch' version came out, I decided to try it since the technology was a bit different. And for that door, I simply wanted the simplest entrance I could get. Installation was a challenge, but once installed, it has been near-perfect. The fingerprint is more reliable than other brands tried, except when finger is wet or dirty. However, unlike other brands, weather does not affect performance of the Yale. Only 1 print is 'allowed' per guest, but I suppose I could set up multiple guests for myself. One downside of using multiple locks within a brand-family is that you are limited to just 1 lock for the auto-open (proximity) feature. (A primary door uses the August Smart Deadbolt). I can understand the safety reasons for this. But, if the proximity range could be reduced to something very short - say 5-10 feet, then multiple locks could share the feature with just one lock opening as the user got very close. In all not the cheapest lock, but it works and has been far more reliable than others I tried.

I had an August lock for about 6 years, and it finally died (common issue with accelerometer ribbon cable snapping). Needed an upgrade and found this one. Man what an upgrade! The fingerprint sensor is a game changer. It works flawlessly so far, and being able to lock the door with just a touch without keys makes it truly keyless. I find auto-unlock is a tiny bit more responsive than the August lock but still not 100%. You still have to be within around 15 ft of the lock when it’s trying or it’ll fail. Having HomeKit is great I can also just as Siri to unlock the door if I have no hands free. The passcode on the screen is great for relatives or visitors that I don’t want to open my door all the time. Love all the options, the only one missing is Apple Keys which would round this out to be the ultimate lock, but it’s not necessary with all the other options available. I was able to swap in the cylinder of my old deadbolt into the lock (Weiser) and it fits ok. Not perfect but it works if in a pinch there’s an outage or the lock isn’t behaving, I still have a good old key. Also for any August coverts, yes this model still works with the old August connect wifi bridge that plugs into a wall socket, so save a few bucks and just get the base unit that has Bluetooth only and use your old bridge! Bonus the old plug in means the batteries last longer in the lock. So far loving this lock!

Terrible lock. Lost connectivity often. The app interface is terrible (can’t do anything in it if you’re having connectivity issues). Troubleshooting within the app itself is god awful. Constantly drained batteries within a month’s use. Going back to Schlage or Lockly.

I bought the version that was bluetooth only as it appears the batteries would last a lot longer. I don't have the ability to lock my door from a million miles away, but I set it to autolock and that seems to work fine. I've set up a code for any guests I need to let into my home. Installation was pretty easy. I did need to borrow a 5/8 forstner bit to put the magnetic sensor in the actual door frame, but now it is hidden and works great. So far, I really have no complaints. I wish the wifi or matter modules were cheaper and didn't eat up the battery, but you can opt out of those modules which is nice. It can be a bit tricky to find where to press in PITCH dark, but otherwise a great little setup.

The unit works great, does everything as advertised. Minus 1 star: - setting up new users with fingerprint is finicky and a little frustrating - fingerprint scanner can be difficult to get exactly right - can't set up a user with fingerprint+code without giving them full app access. Our use case: We want the nanny to have a backup code in case the fingerprint doesn't work for since reason (ie this morning they tried 4 times until I came to open the door for them), but we don't them to have full admin access to the app. Overall I'm happy with the product but if they made the fingerprint scanner a bit more reliable, I'd give 5 stars.

I own two of them. Great lock. It has been working great so far.

I got two of these for the front door and door to the garage. Ordered matching lock cylinders direct from Yale as it was cheaper and super easy to put them in. One screw. Also note these use the same key type as Kwikset locks. I got one of those for the back door and used the Kwikset re-key feature to get it to use the same key as the deadbolts. Doorknob install was far harder due to difficulty aligning all the parts and getting the screws in. Bluetooth connection works fine, took a while to connect on the metal door. Fingerprint a bit iffy on one door, but could be due to cold hands after a long walk in the cold, and code entry works well as a backup before digging out a key.

Easy to install and easy to use, love the ease of use with and without WiFi module. Also looks very nice in the satin nickel and nicely built not cheap feeling. Features are great to share with kids and others, the auto lock and Auto Unlock features are awesome works flawlessly! Definitely would recommend adding the flush sensor included for precise feature use like door left open/door was shut notifications and the door won’t auto lock till it’s shut which prevents damage to the door frame and more importantly the deadbolt in case of accidentally trying to shut it while deadbolt lock engaged.

Was great when it worked. After about 3 months it stopped. Followed all support and replaced batteries and reset to factory settings.. it's useless. Very disappointed.

I installed the lock but then couldn’t pair it to the App. I contacted local Yale support and was then advised by the technician that this lock was only for the US market, despite being sold on Amazon AU. I quote: ”The Yale Assure Lock 2 is a Yale US product, and Yale US was bought out by Fortune Brands; therefore, the Yale Assure Lock 2 is not a NZ product and it has not been designed to work with our Yale Home app here in NZ as a result, unfortunately. Any Yale product that is from the US region will only work with the Yale Access/August app for users based in the US.” I won’t be buying another Yale lock, that’s for sure.

Very disappointed in this product. When you put fresh batteries in, it is fantastic, biometric unlock is fast and convenient for a short period of time. The problem is that it sucks through batteries FAST, and will just suddenly stop working with zero notification ahead of time. I am extra frustrated that I bought a second one of this lock in November that I had planned to install at the cottage, but forget that now, it will be no better than a dumb lock if it's dead without notice every time I arrive. I only use fresh Energizer AAs, with the bare minimum bluetooth with no extra modules, no added features like doorsense nor arrival unlock - the last two sets lasted about 1 month each (!!!) In comparison, I have 2 other older zwave-based yale locks installed in my house, connected to my Ring alarm, and they last most of a year without needing battery replacements, and one of those two locks is much higher traffic area than where I have this biometric lock installed. I suspect the issue draining batteries is the touchscreen, which I did not want, but they only offered touchscreen with this model until a few months ago. I'm not about to buy another one to find out though. Yale - one of the most important feature of a smartlock should be battery life - what good is the smarts if the damned thing is dead unexpectedly when you need to actually unlock the door - also please consider adding low battery notification to your app, not the current implementation where you only get a popup in the app when you open it - one that notified you in your phones system notifications like most normal smart products!
