I wasn't sure about purchasing basswood online but took a chance and was totally satisfied with what I received. The basswood is soft and carves very well.

Excellent Carving Wood
Using the first one to carve a Santa and it is an excellent piece of wood! I expect the others will be the same. Easy to carve with a sharp knife.

Nice and soft for carving. Size is as advertised. Beginners might want to consider getting gloves and maybe buying larger sized pieces- itโs easier to practice detail work if the whole piece is larger.

Mixed quality
The 4"x1"x1" pieces are very soft and easy to work with. However, all of the 4"x2"x2" pieces had knots which made them very hard to work with. I ended up having to discard them.
