Winsor & Newton Winton Oil Colours are a traditional range of oil colours, made from moderately priced pigments, formulated for student and amateur artists or more accomplished painters requiring large volumes of colour within moderate cost limits.

Review: The perfect red paint! - This is by far the best red oil paint EVER! It’s bright but, deeply saturated and last so long!! It’s gorgeous and I use it for my small business. It is absolutely worth the price! You cannot find this color anywhere else. Because of the color quality, it can be a little staining but, does come off the hands with good washing!
Review: Good Basic Oil Paint - I bought these in primary colors and set about learning how to mix the rest of my colors from them. At this price it's affordable to learn how to mix, even when a beginner knows they're going to make some errors (but it's still all usable, of course). Occasionally I'll use some reduction medium when I need a bit more flow, but straight out of the tube, you can really build up texture as needed. Surprisingly powerful and rich pigments. I chose Cadmium Red, Lemon Yellow, French Ultramarine Blue and Titanium White. For under $100 (at that time) I got enough oils to last for months, even though I paint almost daily on large canvases.

**Q: Can these paints work with the Wet-on-Wet technique?**

**Q: Can I use this paint for the wet-on-wet Bob Ross technique and is it thick paint that "breaks" over thinner paint?**
A: Yes, I use it for the wet-on-wet technique.  Yes it breaks, of course it all depends on how much you work it and the pressure you use.

**Q: What is the differance between Permanent Alizarin Crimson and just plain Alizarin Crimson?**
A: The original Alizarin Crimson will fade. Straight from the tube it's borderline acceptable, but it's dreadfully fugitive when mixed with other colors. It will gradually fade from the mix. For example, if you mix a pink with Titanium White and Alizarin Crimson you'll eventually end up with a dirty white. If you mix a black from Phthalo Green and Alizarin Crimson you'll end up with just the green. Permanent Alizarin Crimson is _much_ more light resistant and can be mixed with other colors without issue. Absolutely buy the permanent version if you want this color.

**Q: Are these the AP versions? (Non-toxic?)**
A: I really cannot say for sure but since most all oil color especially Winsor Newton are made from pigment and linseed oil, unless you ingest a huge amount I doubt they are harmful. Also some are marked AP and some are not. As a user of oil color for over 40 years and not only being covered in it on many occasions but inadvertently getting it on my lips I have never had any problems. Like any paint however you do not want it to left for children to get into.

I never buy up-market earth-tones. The pigment is literally dirt, so any extenders would cost more than the pigment. Highly saturated. Absolutely consistent density, pigment saturation and chroma. Has the slightest translucency so a work horse for underpainting, impasto or tempering glazes. Remember - “buttery” just means extra oil, less pigment and a premium price - you can always add a bit of oil if you like butter! Happy painting.
