I have put pans on the mat virtually straight from the hob so it's heat resistance must be pretty high. I would not recommend using it as a hot pad on a kitchen worktop. **Q: what size is the mat** A: I have not yet received my order so am afraid at the moment I cannot help. **Q: Does this float to the top of the water if there's nothing else in the sink?** A: The mat does not float to the top when only water is in the sink with the mat.
