TROPICA - Bottle Gourd (Calabash) (Lagenaria siceraria) - 15 SeedsWorth knowing: This annual, very decorative climbing plant is fast-growing and will grow up to 3 to 5 metres in height provided with the right trellis. It produces broad, heart-shaped leaves and large, white bell-like flowers. Grown calabash gourds have a 4-6 mm thick rind becoming very hard and impermeable to water. Music instruments, bird cages, vases etc. are made from its fruits and artistic poker work in South Africa. Origin: Originally a native of South Africa, the calabash, as a cultivated plant, can also be found in Central and South America.Propagation: Seeds can be started indoors quickly and quite easily throughout the year. Leave the seeds to soak in water at room temperature overnight and press them about 1 cm deep into moist cultivation soil. Germination will follow after 5 to 20 days. Place / Light: The calabash will already need a big pot and a climbing support after 14 days. Habitat should be very bright and warm. Followed instructions on the pack but only got 50% germination.  Maybe Norfolk UK isn't the place for gourds!
