I got the small size, as we have a small pool, and I just thought it would be best for tossing around and diving underwater for. I wasn't wrong! My son loves to have us throw it for him and then he'll dive and spin and try to catch it. Yes, I DO think he may be part lab. Or otter. Not quite sure which. I love to throw it different ways and see how it'll spin and curve underwater. It's rather fascinating. And fun.It's gotten accidentally tossed out of the pool a few times, and it looks and feels like it could stand up to much worse treatment. The rubber it's made out of is Thick, so I'm not afraid it's going to break anytime soon.It Does weigh a few pounds, so, as long as you and your kids understand it's not a balloon, it's a water-weighted ball, everyone should be fine. No purposefully dropping it on a sibling's head, you know? Or slinging it into someone's crotch. That junk WILL hurt, even with the small size.
