Kind of Rough in Beginning; Still a Solid Installment in this Series
I'm giving this a 5/5 but this was the first book in this series that I felt had some very rough edges -- mainly in the beginning. There is about 1-2 chapters near the start, during the trip, where there is a lot of fighting. It was incredibly repetitive and I found myself hating it the whole time. I get the point of some of it -- Tala is a crappy fighter -- but after a certain point, I get tired of reading yet another chunk of text about how she was knocked around (like a baseball). It all does serve a purpose, but I do question how much we as the reader needed to be there for as many instances as had occurred. I ended up skipping sections because I was tired of some of it, which is disappointing because this was the first instance in this series for me where I've done that.Once you get past that part of the story everything sort of falls back into the usual pace of things that I have come to expect for this series. The character growth continues to get deeper in interesting ways (ie: both healing and new traumas). The world continues to get built out more and more, with more layers that we weren't privy to, being pulled back. One thing I will say though, after 4 books. The endings in this series are EXTREMELY abrupt. They kind of make sense where the book ends, but there is also something distinctly unsatisfying to me about how they end. I get that the reason for this is probably that the author is simply writing it like a serialization, and as a result, there aren't really concrete "Arcs" at play, but its still something that has become a little painfully obvious to me.Also, the fact that it is written as a serialization, means that there is no assistance on refreshing your memory about things in the story. Because of the way I tend to read, I may not revisit this series for another 3-4 months and will have read a number of other books in that time frame. So I'll have forgotten who is who and what is what. I don't hate this, since it frees up page time for more progression of the story, but it does mean you have to plan accordingly (so I've taken notes this time around to refresh my self later). All in all. I continue to find this series interesting enough to continue and I look forward to more books. I'm half expecting this series to explode into a lot of tension all at once here very soon though. I guess we'll see.

A Peak At the Dangers Humanity Faces
Our main birb and his plucky sidekick Tala continue their adventures and get to take on a more dangerous caravan route and we finally start to see just how dangerous this world is for humans. From enslavement to precarious growth, humanity has to keep pushing forward but carefully and quietly. The magic system continues to grow and show how awesome it really is with many different paths to take to power each with their own pros and cons.Looking forward to Fusing and Tala's continued growth as a mage and person

Interesting, if odd structure
The story amble's along as mostly slice of life. Overall a well edited story. Just done expect much structure. Reads like they just grabbed enough chapters from a web novel to meet a requisite page count. So no conclusion. Book just ends seemingly after a random training session. For a KU title its neither good nor bad. Granted its leagues better then cliffhanger endings so many KU authors are obsessed with.

What a great premise and system developed in this series. All four books in three days! Great Read!
I picked up the first book in a whim and was engrossed from the very beginning. The MC is engaging, the plot is constantly unfolding, the world build and premise is insightful. The progression is paced and adds to the excitement. Well done to the author and can't wait for the next book. Hurry with the writing your fans wait with anticipation!

May contain spoilers
I'm so sad it's over. I love Talas world and thoughts. I want to know more about her background. What's going on with Kit? Is she gonna decide she likes Rane? Every book brings more beginnings and I need some closure or at least answers. But I'm really interested in the next book .

Enjoyable with a great magic system
I really enjoy how the magic is implemented. It's slowly taking shape and the rules are being revealed in a really intriguing way. Read the book to find out more.

That's One Way To Guard A Caravan
Tala is on the move, but this time she's not at all alone. She's made friends and has a mentor whose care and expertise alike she can't argue with, and she has a goal... and many, many things she wants to do on the way.And as always, absurd acts of risk-seeking to go with them.

Another good addition
I really like this story. This book was not as exciting as the others, but fleshing out characters is as important as anything. Will definitely read the next installment.

Enjoyable
Fascinating details on how the magic system works, a peek at more of the world and its greater powers, and generally exactly what it claims - a slice of life.

Great progression of the series!!
Well worth the read, the magic system of JL Mullins continues to impress and expanding the scope of the world is incredible - it’s a incredible bit and world building and system building!

Fascinating slice of life
I really enjoyed the new adventures in this slice of Millennial Mage. The forest area was interesting, the scenery descriptions were refreshing and unique. The city of Makinaven made me want to see it for myself. Truly fascinating. Also I appreciated how Tala progressed. She has come so far from the first book but we can sense how far she has yet to go. Also the ominous and mysterious threats always just in the corner of your eye makes your heart beat a bit faster. Great combat scenes.A good read !

A new great chapter
A fascinating story in a broken world. The kind of story that draws you in and where you start feeling that you're a bit tired, only to realise that it is well past midnight & you still have to work tomorrow.

Tala and her world expand and deepen
A story of many parts, battles in a forest, humour, exploring a new city, characters learning and growing and some practical RL councel too. We continue to learn more of this fascinating magical world, it's rules and inhabitants. My main regret? That there's only two books left in the series. I'd recommend it.
