Such an amazing kid friendly butterfly habitat. I got this for Kwanza for my 4yr old niece and she loved it! She sat and watched the caterpillars eat and grow in size in just 2 weeks as the directions say! I will say it comes with about 10 caterpillars which is 5 in each up. In both cups i had 1 caterpillar die so we ended up only releasing 8 butterflies. But we are still very delighted at the project. Instructions say they guarantee 3/5 caterpillars will last if stored properly and it has lived up to the guarantee! Will be purchasing again for my niece and another for my kindergarten class! It also comes with a super cool book for the kids to read about the butterfly cycle and once you release your butterflies there is an award on the back to reward your little entomologist!

If it were up to myself and my students, we would complete this unit several times a year! I used this kit to teach my young learners about butterfly metamorphosis. Not only is the kit complete with everything you could need, but is also adaptable for a wide age-range! The STEAM observation log was absolutely lovely and assisted the learning in this unit in many ways. The certificate was a nice touch, too! My students enjoyed slicing fresh fruit (apples) and picking nectar-bearing flowers from our garden to provide to the butterflies before releasing a couple days after emerging from the chrysalises. The kit does come with materials needed to provide nectar to the butterflies, which we also used. I don't understand why this item is geared for children. I am a senior and bought this and had a great time watching the process. I got 9 caterpillars and every one of them hatched. It is a great learning process for young and old alike. The directions are very easy to follow and there are always YouTube videos to watch. I loved it and would highly recommend it for youngsters as well as any age.

I just wish the instructions were a tad clearer and maybe separate from other paperwork. I also wish maybe a different way to feed the caterpillars - felt like they were crawling around in their poop? Otherwise, everything is included - only had one misshapen winged butterfly. Was nice to see them fly away!
