Makita196845-3 Dust Collecting Cover

This has been a really good buy. It fits my Makita 115mm grinder well and when connected to an M class dust extractor does an excellent job job even when chasing sand & cement render with plaster finish on internal walls, dust is kept to an absolute minimum.

Up until recently I didn't even know that these existed, I had seen the expensive specialist chasing machines, but not something that could be fitted to a regular angle grinder, these don't seem to be stocked by many places. Really impressed with this, the unit seems sturdy enough for my (enthusiast rather than trade) needs, with an all metal construction. After having used angle grinders to make chases in block work in the past I'm well aware of how much dust this can throw up. I'm living in a house that I'm renovating so trying to minimise dust and mess is a priority. Using this connected to a shopvac and there is very little/no visible dust when making chases (obv still wear the appropriate PPE). The depth stop allows you to use as a plunge cutter. I imagine that the straight edge on the unit would also be really useful for running against a guide rather than just 'free handing' if you needed a clean straight edge cut, say for paving slabs/thick tiles. I'm using with a 115mm Makita angle grinder, which works fine it just will not give you the depth of cut that a 125mm grinder will. I'll give 5 stars as it does exactly what I wanted. Before I ordered it seemed a lot to spend, but now I've used, although pricey, it's worth the cost to me.

A quick read if the instructions is recommended as it makes it do provide how to install in in no time at all. There's an alien key in the box too so don't water your time searching for yours as I did 😉. It's solid and decent enough, good a reasonably job too if minimising dust, I used an old Henry Hoover connected to it.

Hard wearing and durable. Quality tool. Works seamlessly with the Makita angle grinder. Essential if you want very little dust. Helps if you connect to a dust extractor !

Had to do some grinding in a living room to sink cables into a wall. I have used dedicated wall chasers in the past but they cause a lot of dust, so I decided to give this a try. What a revelation !!! I hooked it up to a Karcher wet and dry vacuum and cut 2 channels (four cuts) the full height of a room, there was no dust swirling around the room when I was finished, there was a small amount of debris left on the wallpaper where the machine passed over but no dust in the air. If you need to use a disc cutter indoors this is the thing to buy. Exceptional.

Started replacing brickwork mortar and to date completed about 40 - 45 mtr. sq. and purchased this for my Makita grinder - although it is for the 125mm it fits the Makita 115mm grinder attachment as well. Good to use and handle can be fitted above or below to allow you to get to within 1 brick of floor or soffit. Fitted to my shop vac and cyclone by hose and very little dust generated - only made dust running in to existing chase or at end of wall when blade cuts in to free air. Made my own attachment to set grinder / shroud for plunge cutting vertical joints between bricks as well so as not to damage adjacent courses.

Thoroughly recommend purchasing. I expected some dust to escape, but there was none. Wished I had bought one earlier. A bit fiddly working out how it goes together as instructions aren't great, but once over that hurdle, it was well worth the effort. It is well made and fits the 18V DGA463Z perfectly. A tad pricey when you consider a bare tool unit is circa £100, however it not only saves your lungs but a major clean up following use. Buy it!!

J'en avais marre de saturer (littéralement) de poussière mes poumons (malgré des masques FFP2) et les pièces que je rénovais (malgré des film plastiques censés bloquer la poussière dans un volume fermé). J'avais tellement de poussière que par moment je ne voyais pas à plus de 20cm.... pas pratique pour travailler ni pour respirer. Après avoir parcouru les commentaires des différents capots, je me suis décidé à acheter celui de Makita car il a de bons avis et est métallique. Le colis a été livré très rapidement, l'assemblage sur ma meuleuse AEG est très facile. Coté performance, que dire... c'est génial ! le problème de la poussière n'existe plus ! La profondeur de découpe est réglable, ce qui permet d'être précis et de limiter très fortement les à-coups et donc les risque de voir la meuleuse rebondir. Lorsque l'on arrête de travailler, la lame rentre toute seule dans le carter. Voilà donc deux améliorations coté sécurité. Le désavantage est que la profondeur de coupe est diminuée, mais c'est plutôt un bonne chose, car c'est précisément ce qui provoque les rebondissement de la machine. S'il faut y aller plus profondément, il faut passer à un outil plus grand ! Je vais donc aussi m'équiper d'un capot pour ma grande meuleuse d'angle.

Wat een heerlijk, briljant apparaat. Gebruikt om meerdere sleuven in de muur te frezen. Goede bouwstofzuiger erop (in mijn geval een Bosch Professional) en je hebt nagenoeg geen last van stof meer! Wat een uitkomst! Investering meer dan waard.

Makita: Sehr zu empfehlen. Mit dem richtigen Adapter für den Indusriestaubsauger gut zu händeln. Habe das Teil beim Fräsen bzw. Schleifen von Fugen zur Kabelverlegung in der Betondecke und in den Wänden benutzt und bin mit der Absaugung und der Tiefeneinstellung zufrieden. Passt einwandfrei auf meinen Makita Einhandwinkelschleifer. Ohne das Teil wäre es eine sehr staubige Angelegenheit geworden. Außerdem ist man vor herumfliegenden Betonteilen geschützt. Daumen hoch 👍

There are two almost-identical versions of this guard. This one fits the Makita grinders that have three notches on the mounting collar, including the Makita XAG20Z 18V LXT cordless grinder. The other variant (Makita 196846-1) is for grinders with a single notch on the collar. The guard is very nice. Solidly built and entirely metal.
