When Barbie gets fired from the film set for expressing her artistic opinion and then Ken dumps her by phone, she spontaneously decides to go visit her aunt at her design house in Paris. Unbeknownst to Barbie, her aunt is closing up shop thanks to a new designer in town who's been stealing her designs. The two commiserate about giving up professions they love and begin to search for new hobbies until Millicent's coworker, budding designer Alice, changes everything with an amazing dress design and a legend about magical "flairies"--creatures who add sparkle and flare to the work of inspired designers around the world. This was our favourite Barbie movie but there isn't one we haven't enjoyed...unlike Disney my 3 year old son enjoys them too and dosn't hide behind the sofa.

Fantastic!!!
My 3year old loved it and one that i can still stay in the same room with, as Barbie in a mermaid tail i have seen enough of. It has all a girl could want pink, glitter, fairies (sorry flairies), fashion, music and talking animals. Very good as has most of the Barbie dvds. I hate Barbie Dvds but my daughter loves them!
Well at least my two daughters love Barbie movies but lets face it they are for the kids! Hubby and I always exit the room as the Dvd is loading!! Barbies voice, the singing Oh my the singing! and the get on your nerves music combined with the same story lines re engineered would send us nuts! Maybe we are an exception to the rule but my girls love them and it does keep them still and quiet so I had to give 5 stars just for the peaceful hour or so!! Actually I think Id give 10!!

A New Direction?
As a massive fan of all the previous Barbie DVDs I'm really disappointed by Mattel's decision to axe Kelly Sheridan as the voice of Barbie and their move away from the classic princess stories towards more modern and fashion oriented tales. The film was still enjoyable but to me a modern day Barbie film (with loads of twitter/facebook references) can never produce the same magical charm as a classic princess story and the warm fuzzy feeling at the end wasn't nearly as big as in previous offerings.

I buy all Barbie DVD for my two girls who are aged 9yrs and 11yrs. Even at this age, they love watching Barbie. They were both looking forward to this DVD since it was advertised but I will be honest and say it was not a great as some of the other Barbie DVD that we owned. There were far too much talking and not so much of action or excitement.

I have read the poor reviews on here, and I do not have any other Barbie movies to compare this to, but since the day it was on TV my 4 year old daughter has been obsessed!! Now the poor reviews say that this is geared toward older kids, but seriously dont most ALL movies these days, fairytales and others have things that an adult could find inappropriate for most young children!! I dont think my 4 year old cared about the getting fired from jobs and boyfriend breakups, etc. What she did love was the Flaries, the puppies, the fun dresses, Barbie, Marie Alecia, and even Aunt Millicent!! She got all the dolls for Christmas and loves them!! I personally also liked the movie! And would recommend it to those parents who wouldnt read too much into the some parts of the storyline! :)
