How thick of a slice can you get with this mandolin?

I have small hands, are the hand guards the same size on different models? If not, which one has the smallest hand guard?

I bought a pair of protective gloves and that's what I use to make sure I don't get cut while I'm using the slicer/mandoline. Mine are called No Cry gloves and come in different sizes. They work well and are also washable. I just couldn't seem to master the hand guard on the Swissmar Borner V-1001 V Slicer Plus Mandoline 5 Piece Set.

Is this a hand held model? if so, is there one that has a stand?

Yes, this is hand held model. This particular model doesn't come equipped with stand. It's an older model but, supreme in every way when compared to a new model. Extremely sharp, produced in Germany.

Does it dice onions.?

yes it does, you slice one direction, turn onion and slice other direction . i own this and know this true. go to boner on you tube and watch a great video on all it can do. yo use the insert w/ the teeth
