There are some variations in tone between the different pieces, making them look slightly distinct. The spatula is somewhat wide, which makes it difficult to flip certain foods—especially eggs or omelets (I assume it can't be too thin, as it would then be prone to breaking). It’s a solid 4.5 any day of the week. To extend their lifespan, I treated them with Walrus Oil and wax (this treatment needs to be repeated periodically to prolong their useful life and bring out the beauty of the wood). I missed out on the promotional period for the set that included extra pieces and a storage container; however, I was later able to find one here on Amazon made of black ceramic—which is more durable than the original wooden version and it looks much better. Each utensil is wrapped in paper to preserve it's appearance during transport, i.e. to keep them from scuffing one another.Back to the utensils, they are simply beautiful, feel great to the touch and on close inspection the finish is uniform throughout and the wood is smoothly sanded and buffed. The holes appear to be burned in which is great because it helps protect the wood long term. Regarding color, they are like a medium-light brown. Not too dark, but not even close to being too light which I find to be a perfect look.After several pages worth of products like this, I'm so glad that I chose these.Overall I'd rate the item as distinguished and beautiful.
