Most building codes require 1 square foot of open ventilation area for every 150 square feet of crawlspace. Generally, Automatic Foundation Vents have 50 inches of net free area per vent -Thank you -Sincerely -Malachi -Customer service and wholesale rep. **Q: Will these fit in 1/2 plywood?** A: I used them with 3/4" boards but I would have co fidence in a 1/2" application. Drill the hole with a 3" hole saw. I used clear 100% silicone caulk to put a bead around the insert part of the plastic body. I did not put any on the flange part. Twist the vent 1/4 turn as it is inserted in the hole so the caulk fills any void area. Yo will get to volume of bead needed but for starters try to put about an 1/8" bead around the circumference. **Q: do the work on vinyl soffits?** A: I am assuming your soffit panels are already in place. You will need to drill a 3" hole. If the soffit flexes too much you may find this to be your most difficult challenge. If you can get a clean hole, I would put 4 balls (about 1/4" diameter) of clear 100% silicone at 4 quadrants of your hole. Then go around the 3" vent perimeter with a bead of silicone. Push into hole and turn a little less than a quarter turn. I believe they will stay in place. I did this process on 3" wood soffit so I did not need to put silicone at the hole quadrants since I had a larger surface depth for my circle bead to brag on to. If you put too much silicone around your hole it may squeeze out past the vent flange and you will need to do a little cleanup. I am sure you can get a feel for the right amounts and feel the silicone will lap over the top of your panel to hold the vent in place. Good luck. Start on your least noticeable area. **Q: Can you paint these with latex paints ?** A: I'm not too sure how latex paint will hold up.
