It definitely has a hippie vibe, but it's not costume-y. The embroidery around the hem is lovely, though I do wish it went all the way around. The pockets are a very welcome addition and don't add bulk. The V-shaped waist is visually appealing, and doesn't accentuate my tummy pooch. The fabric is thin but robust, not limp. It does very much show lines though, so be prepared to wear the right undergarments if you're concerned about "VPL." I'm a size 10 and ordered the medium and while it fit due to the elastic in back, it was slightly uncomfortably tight. I was very ready to take it off the moment I got home from work.
