Review: Red model is sturdy. - The reviews need to be sorted by model. My 1942 model is red with a steel handle that is not likely to break before my back does. Also, it’s around 48” long, not 45. The 50” x 3” info must describe the shipping box, which is also not helpful. What is useful to know is that the stand is 11” wide. Your log could tip, but you can work around this by bucking at alternate ends of the log. Apparently there is or was a 1940 model that had a troublesome wooden handle.
Review: Excellent timberjack for the average firewood cutter - I purchased this timberjack with a bit of concern looking at the reviews but was surprised when it arrived in a very good way. It, as some have stated, has a very thick base. 3" in diameter I would guess and is very heavy duty in my opinion. I did not use the stand on the timberjack opting to go without. Having cut logs on the ground before I see no need to lift the log up. This is inefficient and doesn't buy you any safety in terms of cutting. I first used it to clear a guys lot of trees he cut down for a new garage. Large group of poplar and ash. Some of the logs were in excess of 18" in diameter. According to the instructions it is designed for a 14" log (I believe, I don't have the instructions in front of me anymore) but it worked on my 22" logs no problem. The largest I rolled was 22" by 8' long and it didn't have an issue. I doubt it would go any bigger. 24" might be pushing it with the jaws. The handle was more than able to turn the 8' length and I believe it would have rolled the full 16' length had I tried (and not cut it in two) but I didn't want to abuse the tool more than I had too. I made my measured cuts using an 18" bar. Cut into the log halfway along the length. Then rolled the log and finished the cut. Kept my blade from ground contact, which is what I wanted, and made the process easy. I would recommend to anyone cutting firewood for occasional use. I use my fireplace all weekend long every weekend and pulled 4 cords of wood when I purchased this tool. It handled the task. No problems.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: will timberjack roll logs larger than 15 inches?**
A: It might be able to grip a 15 inch log, but the 48 inch handle probably won't be able to roll it, especially if there is much of the tree still attached to the log! It works great on logs less than 12 inches.

**Q: How well does this work with smaller diameter logs? I purchased a Roughneck Timberjack which works great for large logs but not smaller.**
A: Haven't used on small logs that I can lift. If I can't lift I use it, if nothing else to allow placing something below so I can safely cut. Hope this helps

**Q: Where is this made?**
A: China

**Q: Will the hook swing out of the way for milling?**
A: The hook swings back until contacting the wooden handle...perhaps just about 135 degrees. I just use it to hold ponderosa pine trees for cutting into sections, so I cannot answer aboit milling, sorry.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ With a few small upgrades it's very nice.
*by E***. on January 22, 2021*

As it is pretty cheap tubing but it's also half the price of most other Timber jacks. With a couple small grades it is now a very nice piece of equipment. It only took me about 20 minutes to do. First thing I did was put a piece of 3/4 inch steel pipe inside the lower piece of tubing. From the other reviews it seems like that is the first place it bends. It fit right in nice and tight. I went all the way up to the joint where the two pieces of handle screw together (about 22 inches). I welded the end so it would stay in place. It made it a little heavier but a lot stronger. Then I took where the handle screwed together and put a small weld so the two pieces of handle will not unscrew. The base that looks like a tee and the hook we're also very loose when bolted on so I slid a couple thin washers in to tighten up some of the slop. Now it's very strong and is also sturdy. I hope this was of some help.
