Garmin Foretrex 601 Outdoor, Hiking, Military, Army GPS Watch Navigation

This has been the best Garmin I’ve owned to date, I’ve owned a 301, 401 and yellow hand held one which I can’t remember the series of, but this one has really shone, it’s easy to use, very military friendly, robust, functional and sleek looking, a must have for an infanteer

Great piece of kit. Use it daily. Had a problem at first with it not saving my track. A quick search and problem was solved by connecting it to the phone and deleting the .fit files. Never had a problem since. The display is great for me as I can see it without the need for glasses. I like the fact that I can easily change the batteries and don't need to charge it daily! All I've ever wanted from a GPS.

I really like this product and it’s ease of use. Self intuitive to easily figuring out the main features. Use it for navigation in the desert on my motocross bike, and it does everything I need. Battery life very good as well! Definitely recommend!!

Really happy with my 601 comfortable to wear and looks good. Am still learning all the functions especially the navigation features and setting the waypoints. The only downside is the sattellite loss which does tend to happen regular basis. Otherwise an impressive gadget for my wanderings.

It is is all in the planning. I replaced a foretrex 101 with the foretrex 601 taking advantage of the new features, plotting routes and transferring from a pc (or Mac) to the 601. Ideal for hands free navigation while walking. I bought some rechargeable batteries which are easy to change over even when walking! I plot routes on my pc and mobile with anquet software and digital ordnance survey maps. I use the mobile instead of a paper map and checking the mobile by exception - relying on the foretrex 601 to guide me on my pre-planned route. I choose the 601 over the 401 to try out the connectivity to a smart phone using garmin connect to record activity.

I've had Foretrex's for many years and this is the latest reincarnation, my fourth. Firstly, I began to wonder if it was faulty - until I realised IT TOOK SEVERAL HOURS to find our local satellites. It behaved as if it had been assembled on Pluto! It kept telling me that 'satellites not found, OK?' Finally it got there. Several oddities are irritating. The text and mapping of routes etc is in smaller font than the older versions. Why? The cable connection is annoyingly inside the battery case. Why? Garmin devices have still not become linkable to e.g. UK Ordnance Survey maps. Why? I'll put in a fuller review after I've used the 601 for a while.

Excellent bit of kit. Functionality is spot on for navigation. I have seen some negative reviews about this product, but I have found it to be accurate within 7 metres. A really nice tool, considering the price. Arrived 3 days faster than estimated delivery date. Thanks Farmaweb, will definitely order from you again 👍👍👍

Very intuitive to use once you get used to the function of the four buttons with almost every field customisable from a wide selection of values on each screen. The supplied "map" is very basic with little detail other than main roads and additional information can be quite expensive too. The strap works well and comes with an elastic extension so it can be worn over a glove or sleeve.

EFICACIA y discreción.

Este es el primer producto que adquiero de la marca Garmin y he quedado sorprendido por lo fácil que resulta configurarlo y usarlo. Por comentarios de personas que tienen más conocimiento que yo los GPS de Garmin son buenos y cumplen su función con precisión, el Foretrex 601 contribuye a esa opinión ya que tarda poco en recibir señal y muestra buen detalle de la zona en que te encuentres. Recomiendo que el Foretrex 601 se use en conjunción de un buen mapa de la zona en la que se utilice para confirmar la ruta. El Foretrex 601 es ligero y puede ser utilizado en el brazo o en puntos de sujeción de cualquier equipo destinado para este tipo de navegadores. Por último, sugiero que se lleven baterías extras ya que el consumo de energía del puede ser alto independientemente del modo en el que se use, además de que las baterías pueden llevar mucho tiempo en anaquel y tengan mediana o baja carga aunque se compren en el momento.

Mi trovo in disaccordo con le recensioni negative. Trovo che il Garmin Foretrex 601 sia un ottimo dispositivo, con una eccellente praticità di utilizzo e tutto quello che deve servire ad un GPS se il vostro utilizzo è soprattutto nell'ambito trekking, escursionismo, orientering. Ottima durata delle batterie, io utilizzo delle ministili Eneloop ricaricabili e la possibilità di sostituire velocemente le batterie in caso di necessità è per me un enorme valore aggiunto, anche se raramente ho avuto necessità di ricorrere alla "scorta". Il segnale GPS impostando Galileo ha una precisione più che soddisfacente, solo nelle gole capita di vedere saltare un po' la traccia ma in gole profonde decine o centinaia di metri è normale perchè si perde il segnale dai satelliti più bassi sull'orizzonte e quelli più vicini allo zenith da soli non riescono a garantire una triangolazione altrettanto precisa. Trovo che la navigazione della traccia sia sufficientemente funzionale, per un GPS da polso, permette di fare zoom in e out dando l'esatta percezione di come si snoda la traccia che stiamo seguendo. Ottima la possibilità di personalizzare le pagine con i dati di navigazione, ma tenete presente che la pagina con i dati più "compatti" riesce al massimo a visualizzare 4 campi, quindi ad esempio: distanza percorsa totale, velocità media, altitudine, temperatura. È dotato anche di alcune funzionalità "smart" perchè, grazie alla comunicazione dati bluetooth, permette di mantenere una connessione permanente con lo smartphone, consentendo di visualizzare sul proprio display messaggi e notifiche ricevuti sul telefono, offrendo quindi la possibilità di leggere il contenuto dei messaggi o delle notifiche senza bisogno di tirare fuori lo smartphone dallo zaino. Personalmente non utilizzo questa funzione perchè in escursione preferisco non essere disturbato ma da qualcuno potrebbe essere trovata utile. A completamento della connettività con lo smartphone segnalo comunque che riesco facilmente a scaricare tracciaio e dati dell'escursione (e, volendo, condividerla) solo con lo smartphone, sincronizzando tramite Garmin Connect, senza alcun problema, e senza bisogno di collegare ogni volta il dispositivo al PC tramite cavo USB. Retroilluminazione ottima, ma butta giù la batteria più velocemente. Contasto del display regolabile. Per l'utilizzo che ne faccio, forse mi ripeto, ma trovo che non gli manchi assolutamente nulla e lo riacquisterei ad occhi chiusi e senza esitazione. Devo segnalare solo un piccolo problema avuto alcuni mesi fa, imputabile sicuramente ad un aggiornamento mal riuscito o ad un firmware zoppicante: dopo avere aggiornato ho notato delle differenze nella risposta del dispositivo, ma non gli ho dato troppa importanza. L'ho utilizzato per registrare la traccia di una lunga escursione ma a metà percorso il Foretrex si è impallato. Al rientro a casa ho fatto un factory-reset, riaggiornato con l'ultimo firmware e problema risolto istantaneamente. Al di là di questa piccola parentesi negativa ritengo sia un prodotto molto stabile ed affidabile, almeno con gli ultimi firmware rilasciati. Spero di essere stato utile ;)
