Solid built electric shaver, good quality as expected from Philips.
Bought this to replace the previous model I owned for some years (still working, just a bit blunt on the spinning blades). The built quality of this shaver is solid, you feel the quality when holding it in your hand. It has a nice colour combination also, back with gold trims. There is also a LCD display which lights up to tell you the battery level as well as showing the charging progress when connected to recharge. This shaver comes inside a hard cardboard box, and you will also find a separate tray containing the shaver, user manual, a small brush, charging dock, carrying case and charging cable. The shaver also comes with a flex head cover to protect the flex heads, which is handy. You can recharge the shaver by connecting the two-pin plug cable (doesn't come with UK 3-pin plug) directly to the wall socket, or via the charging dock provided, all depends on your personal preference on having it charged standing vertical or resting horizonal on a surface. The shaver is suitable for wet or dry shaving, but it is not intended to be submerse into water. The three flex heads do tilt independently to follow your face shape, and the extra "5D pivot" adds an extra pivot point below the 3 flex heads as a single unit. When operating, I have noticed it is a little quieter than the previous model I have, but as mentioned earlier, my other shaver is a quite old, so it might be the reason. The shaver lasts quite a while between recharging, so it is pretty energy efficient in that sense. Oh, forgot to mention, there is another flip up mechanism at the back of the shaver to reveal a trimmer also. I can strongly recommend this Philips shaver. Hope you will find this review useful.

Worth the extra
I don't consider this an expensive razor (although the price was discounted because, I'm guessing, it was end of a line), but still quite a bit more than my previous razor. My previous one, though, lasted less than 3 yrs and had already been replaced under warranty. They had not been Phillips but I had had Phillips razors in the past. I decided, therefore, to go back to a decent brand. This razor feels substantial and the motor produces a confident buzz when running. It is smooth on my face and a shave does not take long. I like the wet shave feature and the battery level indicator. The charging stand is a convenient touch but you can use the cable direct to the razor as an alternative - I have found this useful when travelling.

This Philips 3000 has reduced my shaving time by more than half.
What struck me first of all was how quiet this shaver is, it literally hardly makes a sound. At first I thought that perhaps the battery was running out but no it just keeps on going. Up to now I have been using a very loud, very fast-spinning foil shaver. The remarkable thing is that this, by comparison, very slow-spinning Philips rotary takes me three to six minutes to get a good shave, depending on growth, compared to fifteen to twenty minutes with my foil shaver. The end result is pretty much the same, I just don't have to go over and over the same area nearly as much with the Philips. Battery life is excellent so far, a full charge giving me fifteen shaves. It takes an hour to fully recharge. By comparison my foil shaver's hour charge only gives me usually four shaves. Cleaning the Philips rotary daily is simple, just flipping up the shaver head and rinsing under the tap with lukewarm water. However, the recommendation to dismantle the blades and blade holders once a month for a more thorough washing off is a different ball game altogether. The instructions say to be careful to keep the blades and guards as matched pairs. I have found this to be impossible. With the retaining frame removed, the slightest shake or accidental knock sent the blades flying out of the guards. Getting the retaining frame back on is extremely fiddly. really difficult and I have found it impossible to keep the blades in place while doing this. Twice now I have had to put the heads back together as random pairs. Also I was not able to tell if the guards were correctly seated because, although they each have two notches in their circumference, there were no visible corresponding projections in the holder. This left me a bit concerned as to whether the heads were correctly fitted. Anyway, the shaver unit clicked easily closed when it was all back together and fortunately it still seems to shave OK with the heads mixed up - I certainly can't believe I got lucky and happened to put them back in the original combinations. One of the biggest bugbears to me with the more expensive foil shaver is the cleaning station that comes with it, which ties the user into a constant outlay for cleaning solution refills which don't last for anywhere near the number of cleans that the suppliers claim and cost around four quid a throw. By comparison, apart from the occasional replacement of blades which I am given to believe should be after two years or so, the Philips 3000 is satisfyingly free of ongoing expenditure. This, together with the time-limited discounted buying price at Amazon makes it pretty good value.

Great razor
This is the best razor I have ever had. It shaves as close as a wet shaver.

Top Shaver - Don’t need to go more pro than this
Bought to replace an older model (from 10 years ago) that cost 3 times the price. Better in every way. Battery charge lasts me 3 weeks for light topup trims, accurate cuts, finishes the job in 3 mins. Can’t grumble, would buy again if this broke

Well made, but does a poor job on my rather soft fine hair beard
I've used electric razors for over 70 years. For me the best razors of all time had foil heads. The worst i've had had cassette heads. I got to try a 'cheap' rotary model with three heads like the philips. It shaved me as well as the old foil razors. Impressive. Bought this razor in the expectation its floating head system would give a closer shave than the cheapy. After about 100 five minute shaves so getting the best closest shave leaving quite a rough finish following on with the cheapy always results in a closer finish. For my beard this razor deserves no more than three stars. The beard trimmer works fine but is reluctant to unlatch. It is easy to hold due to its chunky design. It seems well made. With five minute shaves the battery charge indicator soon loses one bar from three. At this stage the shave quality starts to drop off. Could it be the motor runs too slow for my type of beard? It is easy to clean, just open the head and either shake the cuttings out or rinse under a tap. It can be used wet or dry. I only use it in the dry shave mode. Maybe it works better with stiffer beards.

Very good shaver for the price
Had a similar Phillips shaver which stopped working after being purchased in 2012. Have had this newer version for 5 months. I use it to trim a couple of days of growth before wet shaving or if I'm in a hurry, I do full on shave without wet shave. Either way it works really well. On first impression, the motor doesn't seem to be as powerful as my old one. However, it still does a very close shave. Think I've only had to charge it once since purchasing, albeit I have only been using it 2 or 3 times a week at most. Overall I would recommend buying this shaver.
