Found defrost broad was the reason for wires melting together. Being able to start the unit with confidence, and seeing and hearing the unit at start makes the deference. Can by used in many other low volt tests.

Well though out tool
Locating a low voltage short is one of the service calls an HVAC technician dreads. This tool enables the technician to send power from R to the components in the system by means of supplied switches. You can energize O, W, Y, or G. The built-in circuit breaker trips if there is a short. This narrows the search to O, Y, W or G. Comes with leads and handy clips that allow you to pierce the insulation, or small magnetic ends that can be used on some tstat sub bases. Makes the dread of Locating a short a bit less dreadful! This cannot be used on a system with a communicating tstat, as far as I know.

Well, the first one came with a broken toggle switch, second one not. Works as it should. Of course though, wish I would have waited for the new version of this, the switches seem more sturdy and thought-out on that model, or maybe this model just being the first of it was money saving option for production. Either way, buy the new version and not this one lol .

Great Product!
This is a great product. I work as an HVAC/R Tech, and I work on alot of rooftop units. You can connect these and test each function individually on a thermostat terminal strip either at the unit or at the thermostat. There's different styles of connectors and you never have to worry about shorting anything out. Additionally there's ports where you can check with a multimeter, I highly recommend this product to anyone working out on the field

Good idea...but
Unfortunately the build quality is poor. The switches fell apart after the first use. I would like to see a heavy duty edition with better switches and better quality jumpers.
