Finally Something That Works
I have seborrheic keratosis and age spots because I'm old, spent many years in the sun without sunscreen, and have a family disposition to such things. I started developing this fairly large spot on my face, and while I do not expect to be able to clear it completely, I would like for it to fade enough that I can cover it with makeup. I have tried many over the counter products, some high end expensive creams and serums without satisfactory results. The product that seemed to have the most promise, Peach Slices Dark Spot Microdarts, has a main ingredient of niacinamide. I also read about Alpha Arbutin. So I decided to go straight for the active ingredients in serum forms and found The Ordinary. The price point for both The Ordinary Niacinamide/Zinc and Alpha Arbutin/Hyaluronic Acid serums is spot on (pun intended). Excellent value for the money. The serums arrived quickly from my order and packaged well, no leaks or crushed boxes.I have been using the products for 2 weeks and I have noticed a dramatic difference in the appearance of my skin. While the spot is still there, it has definitely faded some. Many other smaller spots I honestly did not notice before - because I was so focused on the large one - are gone. The following is my daily routine:On a cleansed* face, I apply the Niacinamide:Smudge just a tiny bit of the serum on my pinky finger - just enough to wet it - and apply directly to target areas. I rub this in gently until it's absorbed.Slightly rub 3 drops of the serum into my palms, and pat all over the face.Wait about a minute for the Niacinamide to dry. It's thin and doesn't take long. Then I apply the Alpha Arbutin:Same process as the Niacinamide. Apply the tiniest bit with fingertips to target spots.Place 3 drops into palms and pat all over the face. The Alpha Arbutin is thicker and stickier, so it takes longer to dry.At this point I usually brush my teeth - the serum is dry by the time I'm finished. In the morning, I apply a daily sunscreen* as the last step.In the evening, I apply a moisturizer* as the last step.I am extremely happy with the performance of these serums and for once I am getting actual results. One thing I noticed was that as my face was lightening, the bridge of my nose looked darker because I was not patting enough product in that area, so now I pay attention. My skin feels great and have had no issues with purging. I plan to continue this routine and hope to update this review with more results.*Other products I use in my routine:Cleansers - Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser or Kiehl's Ultra Facial Oil-Free CleanserThe Glossier product is a light cream-gel that can be used with or without water. It has a no-tears type of ingredient so it doesn't sting the eyes. I find it good for when I am really dirty from working in the garden or suffering from allergies and have some eye goop. The Kiehl's isn't a cheap product but it's probably my favorite cleanser overall. Very little is needed to wash your face (less than a pea size) It goes a long way and a full size tube lasts me over a year. It removes all oils and sebum without stripping.Sunscreen - Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen SPF 40 for faceAnother expensive product but it does everything I want and need. I wrote a separate Amazon review for this.Moisturizer - Walgreens Hydrating Water GelThis is the store brand like Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel. It has hyaluronic acid and a cooling effect when you apply it, which I feel soothing. They also have a cream-gel version, I don't like the texture of that one. This goes on smoothly and absorbs quickly.

Effective at targeting skin issues
I used this along with the ordinary azealic acid suspension & the ordinary moisturizing factors w/ceramides and it always gets my skin all the way together. Very nourishing combo that really calms my breakouts and brighten my skin from acne marks. The alpha arbutin has a nice consistency that absorbs well with no greasy feel and really effective at targeting my skin issues. The price point is the bonus.

One of my favorite products for dark spots and uneven skin tone
I’ve used The Ordinary Alpha Arbutin 2% + HA before, so this was an easy repurchase for me. I originally started using it because I wanted something for the dark spots on my face, and it’s been one of those products that fits very easily into my skincare routine. What I like most is that the serum feels lightweight, smooth, and easy to apply. It doesn’t feel heavy or greasy on my skin, and I like that I can use it with my other skincare products without any problem. Since I specifically focus on areas where I have uneven tone and darker marks, I appreciate having a product like this in my routine.Another thing I like is that the texture feels comfortable and the bottle is simple to use. I also trust this brand because I’ve had good experiences with their products in the past, and this is one of the products I felt was worth buying again.Overall, I’m very happy with this purchase. For me, this has been an excellent product to use on dark spots and uneven skin tone, and I’m glad to have it back in my routine.

A must buy for facial dark spots!
This stuff is amazing! For many years I've had facial dark spots like melasma, sun spots, and acne scars. I've tried so many different products to reduce the dark patches to no avail.....until now. I'm on my second bottle in 2 1/2 months and the change is amazing. They key is you have to stick with it. For two weeks straight I put the stuff on morning and night and I truly saw the beginning of the lightning in a week. It was slight but noticeable because it was that one patch on my face people would always stare at. Fast forward to now you can barely see it and I don't use concealer on it anymore to cover it up. Next spot....my elbows. :-)

Works best as a duo with niacinamide and txa
I’ve been using the The Ordinary Alpha Arbutin 2% + HA serum for hyperpigmentation, sun discoloration, and those annoying little dark spots pimples love to leave behind — and my experience with it has honestly been a slow-burn situation. At first, I really wanted to be obsessed with it because skincare TikTok practically treats it like liquid gold. But during the first few weeks of using it, I was sitting there like… “Okay girl, where’s the glow?” My skin felt hydrated and smooth, but the brightening results were taking their sweet time.I had to leave it in the dust for awhile! After consistently using the Anua Niacinamide 10% + TXA 4% Serum for a while, I decided to reintroduce The Ordinary Alpha Arbutin 2% + HA back into my routine — and THAT is when things started getting interesting.Suddenly my skin started looking brighter, more even, and my dark spots from the sun and old pimples started fading way more noticeably. Not only did I see the difference, but other people started noticing too, which honestly says everything because nobody compliments your skin unless it’s actually glowing. For me, the Alpha Arbutin worked better as a supporting character instead of the main character. The Anua serum laid the foundation, and once I added the Alpha Arbutin back in, the combo started eating.Texture-wise, The Ordinary serum is lightweight, slightly tacky at first, but easy to layer. No irritation, no dramatic breakouts, no chaos — which I appreciate because brightening products can sometimes do the absolute most.My final thoughts:Do I think this serum is bad? Not at all. But on my skin, it really started showing off once paired with niacinamide and txa. Alone, it was giving “potential.” Together? That combo gave visible results.Would I repurchase it? Yes — but specifically to pair with my niacinamide and txa serum because that duo clearly understands the assignment.Best for: hyperpigmentation, uneven skin tone, sun spots, and leftover marks from pimples.

First time a beauty product works on removing my melasma
Since I felt pregnant with my second child I developed melasma, I have two enormous dark marks on each side of my face and over the years I have spent a fortune on beauty products trying to reduce the appearance of the marks with very little improvements, until I came across this product from The Ordinary, in 8 months of usage and obviously exfoliating my skin to have best results my marks are significantly lighter and some parts have disappeared completed i belive given this progress I have seen my marks if not completely disappeared by the end of the year, they at least won’t be noticeable. I couldn’t recommend this product enough!
