Our dog Mugsy walks me about 4 miles each morning. Way too many neighbors allow their dogs to run loose; add in a few strays, and the occasional urban coyote, and I've had need of a good, solid staff to whale away menacingly at charging marauders more than a handful of times. (It's a pity I can't go after their absent owners, the real culprits.) Despite its heft, this 72 year old woman can easily swing it if needed. My new walking stick is of the highest quality wood and workmanship -- even more handsome than its photos indicate. I would have expected to pay far more.
