I bought this a while back because I wasn't having a lot of success in cutting carpet during a demolition project. The traditional utility knife worked but, I needed to apply more force than I wanted to get the result. Then, I discovered this retractable carpet knife. This knife was designed to be heavy duty in its full sense of the term, "heavy duty". Fast forward to now. I have been using this for a number of years now and I couldn't be happier with the knife's performance. I think it is a combination of the angle in the body of the handle as well as the fact that the blade end is square which makes the tip of the blade stronger than a blade that ends in a sharp point. Whatever the engineering behind the design, it works well! It takes less effort to cut through thick carpets. It saves time when you have to rip up a lot of carpet. It works well where ever a sharp strong blade is needed. The designers of this product also understand the ergonomic need of carpet cutting. Thus, the angled handle, extra heavy duty blade, placement of blade retractor, and functional blade locking mechanism. Everything is exactly at the right place and most things on the utility knife are very conveniently placed and can be operated with one hand. This is a keeper. For the modest cost of this utility knife, it is a no brainer to buy this.

This carpet knife works much better than a utility knife. It has a nice weight, is balanced and easy to hold. The rectangular blades can be switched around so you can use all four sides which cuts down on expense as carpet and padding, etc. dulls blades quickly. I like that the blade is retractable so you don't have to mess with some plastic guard and you can toss it in a tool bag without worrying about accidentally cutting yourself. You can store an extra blade inside the handle. Swapping blades is easy but the way the knife slides open means that it doesn't always close properly so you have to mess around with it which can be a pain. Still its a good price and it is much better than a standard utility knife. Be sure to purchase extra blades.

Very sharp, the carpet was no match for it

This really isn’t a review on the product itself, it did its job and ripped up the carpet that I needed to remove, it’s more of a review of the packaging itself. I opened the box and removed the knife out of it but the razor blades are not packed very well. They are in a plastic container and not taped up. Well, they fell out of the box and on to the floor and my foot and sliced my toe open. This company could do better with securing those extra blades.

Like it better than fixed blade units & like the rubber grip. I can keep this in my general tool bag without getting sliced. Still a good idea to wear cut resistant gloves when using, it you're not used to this type of cutter. Be sure to loosen the knob when sliding forward initially.

Works pretty slick. Best looking I think also priced good.
