A pocket-sized treasury of writings and teachings from the beloved Zen teacher Thich Nhat Hanh Since Thich Nhat Hanh’s exile from his native Vietnam in 1966, the Zen Buddhist monk has gone on to become one of the most influential and beloved spiritual masters of our age. The seeming simplicity of his words belies the power of his ability to touch the heart and mind, and to inspire spiritual practice. Known for his warm, generous, and joyful teaching style, Hanh has made his wisdom remarkably accessible and resonant to readers across the globe. Now, that wisdom has been compiled into one pocket-sized collection featuring his most powerful and inspiring teachings. Taken from his many published works, these selections make up a concise introduction to the Hanh’s major themes—such as mindfulness, enlightenment, and compassion—and distill his teachings on the transformation of individuals, relationships, and society. The Shambhala Pocket Library is a collection of short, portable teachings from notable figures across religious traditions and classic texts. The covers in this series are rendered by Colorado artist Robert Spellman. The books in this collection distill the wisdom and heart of the work Shambhala Publications has published over 50 years into a compact format that is collectible, reader-friendly, and applicable to everyday life. Review: great book! - This is a great Introduction to the writing and teaching of Thich Nhat Hahn. The editor selected short excerpts from his books, and organized them under the major themes of Mindfulness, Enlightenment, Emotions and Relationships, and Peace. The book is also great for those familiar with Thich Nhat Hahn’s writing. I’ve read a number of his books, but he has written more than 70. The editor did a wonderful job of presenting key insights and teachings through the excerpts, and has excerpts from books I have not read. The excerpts are the perfect length for some inspiration during the day or before bedtime. I also like the way the book is organized. Each excerpt has a title. In the back of the book is a section called “Sources.” For each excerpt title, the book is given that the excerpt comes from, and also the page number(s) in the book. I’m a senior citizen and I noticed that these pocket books seem to come in two versions. I think the books with the photos on the cover have smaller dimensions, and the books with drawings on the cover have larger dimensions. You can check this in the desertcart book descriptions. I purchased the larger version, with the drawing on the cover. The font in this version is large enough that it is easy for me to read. Review: The one book everyone should read - This is my favorite book. Such simple wisdom for living a peaceful life. Reading a chapter a day so that I absorb the message that is shared and spend time thinking about it deeply. It surprised me how little the book is, but it is totally packed with so much valuable information.

Take it everywhere
I can't tell you how many times I have read this dear little book. The only book I have read more is the Dhammapada. Once you have gained mastery over the topics he discusses, it serves as a constant reminder. One of the most precious books to me, and still holds up strong from being carried everywhere in my back pack. If you are considering purchasing it, do not hesitate. It will only bring happiness into your life.

Short "chapters" you can read daily
Book itself is great introduction to this teacher. As well as "Mindfulness" and looking inward rather than out for answers happens or fulfillment. Yep, it's small. Great for backpack, purce, carry-on. Convenience rather than your phone. Mindless Facebook, playing a game on your phone, or texting. Sized similar to a phone you can reach for it and it and maybe in-rich your life instead of junk food for you mind. Food for thought as they say. Practical, insightful, uplifting. Lovely man with gift to explain functional, applicable, common sense meaning of mindfulness and finding happiness for yourself so you can be happy with with others.

Helpful, as far as it goes.
The ideas for maintaining mindfulness and staying in the moment are helpful, and relatable. But, as with everything I have read so far on the subject, it does not fully address the issues of anger and difficult emotions in a way that would help a person get through a physically and/or emotionally painful situation or experience. It floats above the surface, hovering on a merely theoretical plane. Unfortunately, I (and most people, I think) have to live life on earth, in a physical body, that suffers mightily and can't find a way to bridge the gap between the painful realities of our existence and the wishes that we could be able to "just be" in those moments.

Beautiful book by a beautiful soul
I already have this book but wanted another copy so I could give it to someone. It’s a great little book which I highly recommend as i think it really covers the main parts of Thay’s teachings. It’s very enjoyable & easy to read. Simple yet profound & powerful.
