From a singer and teacher: These are worth it
I've been a professional singer, actress and voice teacher for 20 years. This is HANDS DOWN the best lozenge I've come across. The lozenge concept presents a unique set of problems that this product pretty much solves on its own. The Halls drops that contain menthol are useless if you have to perform while using them- I always caution my students that your throat will be so numb that you could hurt your vocal cords and never know it, so I never let them use any drop with methol unless they are at home resting. Halls Breezers and Ludens Cherry drops- these contain ordinary pectin and lubricate very well. But they always leave you a little "phlegmier" than before you started. I keep these in my studio for my kids, but they're far from ideal. I finally shelled out the money to get a 15oz tin of these and I am pleasantly surprised! A lozenge is not a substitute for resting, hydration and good voice care, but for minor throat irritations, cotton mouth that occurs with nerves, and phlegm that occurs naturally, these things are great! I think it's the food grade glycerin that lubricates but doesn't cause additional mucous. I'm also getting into voice over, and these help with mouth clicks and smacks resulting from dry mouth. It's just the right amount of lubrication and it really takes the worry out of performing if it's not a "great voice day." If there are about 175 of these in the 15oz tin, that comes to about a quarter per drop. Too expensive for me to keep in my studio (teenagers eat lozenges like candy just because they're there), but I will definitely tell my kids about them. I am going to make sure to stock up for myself! The shipping was actually pretty quick from London- 4 or 5 days, I think. Really great product!

"Addictive"
Because of the hefty price of this imported product, I don't buy these often; but when I do, I can't stop eating them. A large tin cost about $56 and they're gone in less than a week. If you haven't had blackcurrant, prepare for a mind blowing taste. I'd say it's a cross between blueberry and cherry. If you are a person self control who has the willpower to eat a few each day, you are the lucky ones. They are soothing to the throat and mouth and somehow stimulate your taste buds into producing more saliva; so they are great for dry mouth (often caused by medications.) My search for a less expensive alternative has been futile. They are available in lesser quantities (for "normal" people") The ones I purchased are not sugar free but they sell those as well. I won't buy another giant tin for a few months or I'd become a chubby pastille-popping addict! If you want to know their texture, they are somewhat softer than the old Pine Bros. soft cough medicine. Enjoy!

Really delicious, lovely pastilles, and a nice gift
These blackcurrant pastilles are just lovely - they have a very natural taste and feel very nice on the throat. Not too sweet, with a delicate fruit taste. They make a nice gift - most people don't know them, but they always enjoy them. If you buy the big tin, it usually comes with a cute little tin that holds a small supply (purse, car, whatever). Also, if you buy the big tin, it may help to store all the pastilles in a zipper plastic bag inside the tin, to preserve their soft, "gummy-like" texture. (They're delicious whether soft or harder, but the soft texture is especially nice. The tin comes wrapped in plastic that keeps the pastilles soft and moist until you open the tin.)

Love GRETHERS- Love the mini tin in the large box.
Great!! I started out buying the smaller sizes in several different flavors. I like them all. With sugar, and sugar-free. But, I finally bought the largest size for something like fifty bucks, and I love the mini tin that came with it!! I’ll be buying the large size again when I need it. These help my voice and my throat, so I don’t mind spending the money to be able to have the use of my voice. I had some voice issues, hoarseness, went for voice/speech therapy, got exercises to do to strengthen my vocal cords. So, these GRETHERS are helping me a lot since I have to speak a lot when I’m working. :). Grateful for these.

Wonderful! So delicious! Works to sooth my dry mouth, nicely. These are my favorites. Not too sweet!
I already loved the sugar-free Black Current version of these (made by Grether), but I also love this original version, made with sugar. Both versions taste absolutely fantastic--perfect, in fact! And they are a nice solution to my dry mouth. The difference is in the calories and the amount of sugar in the product, of course. This original version is sweetened with Glucose Syrup, Sugar, and Molasses--a nice change from America's ubiquitous "High-Fructose Corn Syrup"! I love that you can chew these for quite a while before they finally melt away, all the while enjoying the taste of that delicious black current juice with which these are made. This is the only fruit lozenge I like (and even the only fruit "candy" of which I like the taste.) And Grethers make so many more flavors, all of which I'm guessing will taste equally delicious!

If you like chewy candy that tastes of black currants and can ...
If you like chewy candy that tastes of black currants and can soothe your throat, you can't do better than these they taste incredible. I give one star because the due date for delivery is 37 days from now. This candy is made in a factory in England. It is not hand picked by virgins on the first day of spring, then added to a pot along with water from the fountain of youth and honey from the top of a 400 foot tall tree then stirred lovingly with a unicorn's horn by the queen of Sheeba for 60 hours then delivered by mule through 2000 miles of rain forest, where all the natives will murder you for crossing their territory let alone to get a taste of the delicious blackcurrant pastilles, then put aboard a tramp steamer from the 1920s that gets lost in a maelstrom where the surviving crew get washed up on a desert island and get attacked by grizzlies and the single survivor makes a tent out of grizzly hides, and lives there for two years before being rescued by pirates who force him work aboard their ship for 5 years before he gets released into my home city, and with him in his pocket he carries a single untouched tin of pastilles; pastilles he carried through madness, despair, slavery and starvation, and right before dying he places the pastilles gently on my doorstep and is carried off on angels wings. P.S. Actually, they arrived in 3 days. Changed my review to 5 stars as these really are the best candy in the world.

I wish I didn’t like these so much!
Ever since I was a kid, my mom would, occasionally, buy these from the pharmacy. She may have at first bought it as a throat lozenge, but it became one of my favorite candies. I don’t know how much it cost then, but it always felt like it was a luxury item. Unfortunately, at least in the U.S., it still is. It’s not cheap, but “occasionally” I just have to have it!
