Simple to use, great style and works well
I bought this radio as I needed another radio that was able to receive Radio 4 Long Wave; I’m currently doing a video for each day before Radio 4 Long Wave is switched off on the 27th June 2026. I’m feature many radios from 1932 to present day. I was pleasantly surprised with this radio. Radio 4 Long Wave come through strong. For a small radio the volume output is plenty. After the switch off, I will continue to use the radio for Medium Wave and FM reception. FM reception is fine. I can also receive some Medium Wave station, but have yet to try this radio out for late night DXing. The controls are very simple: On/Off Volume, Band selector for FM, MW and LW, Up and down tuning. The LCD is clear to read, and is back light briefly when controls are used. This is to preserve battery power. The LCD information includes: Signal Strength, Frequency in kHz for MW/LW and MHz for FM, Battery Status. There is no RDS for FM. Batteries were included. It suggests Batteries are used only for LW/MW. I’m not sure exactly what this means, does it this mean:- 1. Batteries my not be able to power FM for very long (unlikely), 2. Using a switch mode 5V supply may not be any good for MW/Lw reception as these bands are more prone to interference (more likely) I also like the look of the radio. I Bought the White version, there is also a Blak version available. The cloth front looks good. The radio is very light in weight, not a pocket radio, but may be a coat pocket. Has a standard telescopic antenna on the back of the radio for FM reception. Says it is Deigned & Engineered in the UK and the Roberts Radio UK address can be found on the bottom of the radio. However, I suspect that it is manufactured in China or outside the EU/UK. There are no station presets, but that is fine, it makes the radio simple to use. The only annoyance, and it is minor, is that the frequency for each band is not remembered when changing bands and after being switch off and on again. Prefect radio, well done Roberts on this one, I’m featuring many of you past radios in my videos.

almost impossible to tune
I purchased this radio for my elderly mother-in-law, on unboxing it is a nice looking neat little radio with a clear display, there is however a big but, it is almost impossible to tune. The tuning knob is so sensitive that it can take 4 or 5 attampts to tune into a station even if you know the frequency, if you were trying to just tune through and find a station it is pretty much impossible.

A true gem for collectors
Rich sound and very nicely built. Maybe the last radio available with the LONG WAVE option.

The last of its kind, but good and good value
This is now the only LW radio you can buy new in the UK. For some of us living in areas of marginal reception (I'm 40 miles from London but for FM (mostly), DAB and mobile phones it's a not-spot) this is a great little radio. We have internet radios too but when you're on the move in the house, steam radio works so much better. R4 LW is due to be switched off mid-2025 but hopefully it will get a reprieve, but even then this will continue to serve in those places in the house where FM does work. I know it's a trope that old people have the radio on all the time - well, we do, and are likely to want to do so for at least the next 20 years so thanks Roberts, I haven't always been a fan but this is great.

Looks good but disappointing
Great looking little radio bought for kitchen when on offer. Unfortunately I had to return as the FM function kept cutting out every 10 seconds very frustrating. Disappointed Never had problem with Robert’s products previously. Shame

Think carefully before you buy "anything" before you have actually seen it.
It is said "With a heritage of more than 80 years, Roberts is the UK brand leader in portable radios" I was looking forward to this purchase because it filled my needs. Small, compact and easy to use. The batteries were very fiddly and they kept popping out. (no points) It was white in colour and light to carry (8 points) But the digital tuning was a complete nightmare and difficult to read. Do manufacturers ever consider those, like me, who have entered the Winter of their lives. (Zero points) Well done to Amazon for accepting the product return.
