Is this real cast iron? Does it have a layer of glossy black paint on it?

I would think it is real cast iron, heavy, not glossy but mat and I have used it for burning a few times and no paint came off. Still very happy with the product.

Can this go on top of my wood stove? I want to use it as a wax melter.

I would advise against melting wax into it as it is cast iron

Should i season this, and if so, is there a recommended procedure?
