SFM : Stove Fan with Twin Fan for Self-Cooling, SmartFan Mini for Wood Burning Stoves 65 - 330 C, 130cfm

This actually work, although it doesn't seem to create a noticeable 'wind' like normal fans. I got this just at the start of Spring and have tested it on several of the chillier days we have had since. Within minutes from when the fan starts to operate it makes a noticeable difference to the ambient temperature in the room where it is operating. Because it starts operating at quite a low temperature, it doesn't seem to need that much fuel to make a difference. Whereas over a normal winter we use a lot of wood and coal, we won't need to run the stove at the same temperature as we did last winter. I'm pretty sure it will make a difference to the cost of keeping the house warm. Wish I had got one ages ago. Am upgrading my review to say this is brilliant. It really works. It means that the wood burner can be kept at a much lower temperature and the warmth keeps circulating around the house. I have found that the whole house is warm. That never happened with just the wood burner burning at much higher temperatures.

Great piece of kit. It is almost silent. If you were sat in a room with no other sound you would hear a very slight hum, but only if you concentrated. Worked first time of using, no need to faff about with it - does what it says it will do on the box

The Smartfan would have worked very well except that our wood-burning stove is located in a chimney recess that has a heavy metal plate above it surrounding the flue so that no heat is lost to the rest of the chimney. As a result this recess gets very hot - hence the reason for trying to get a fan to push the heat out into the rest of the room. It was not clear to me when we purchased the fan that it is powered by the heat difference between the base of the fan and the top of the fan - in our case the top of the fan would have been very hot and, as a result, it was not efficient. A very informative phone call with the Irish manufactures clarified the situation and they were good enough to suggest an alternative solution that worked on a different principal. I have not tried this alternative since it is significantly more expensive than the Smartfan. Nevertheless the advice received and the ease of returning the system were faultless. I am sorry that, in our situation, we were not able to use this particular model.

Worked fine for 3 years then at the beginning of this year got a call from Home saying the fan was on fire and the living room was filled with smoke. Seems the fan on the side of the unit had melted throwing hot plastic everywhere and filling the room with smoke. On the basis of this I wouldn’t recommend this unit. Just too much of a fire risk.

I had not really appreciated difference between mini and full size. In hindsight would have chosen larger version for my stove. Otherwise happy with design and function. Worth noting due to side fan must be positioned on right hand side.

I wasn't sure what to expect from this fan but I'm pleasantly surprised. The unit's slightly bigger than I expected but it fits in the small gap I have above my stove. It makes more than a noticeable difference to how quickly my draughty room heats up and stays warm. It's very quiet and looks and feels high quality. I've only been running it a few weeks, here's hoping it has a long life!

Very good, makes a little whirling noise when first used but it's not intrusive and after a while it gets very quiet, you would not know its working. it's virtually silent. One review I read said there's packed up after two weeks but I expect they failed to read the instructions which does state that it's working temperature should not be no more than 330 centigrade, so get a stove thermometer so you can monitor this . I suspect they did not. As for me I'm snug as a bug and very happy with mine. Others moan that the fan does not push the air out as strong as they would like and it's not all that noticeable (as quoted with most fans). However after a while the room is more warmer than without one and if you wish to see proof that it is pushing the hot air into the room I suggest getting some talcum powder and throwing it towards the fan and you will get your proof.

Circulates air slightly. Disappointed. Thought the flow of warm air would be a bit stronger. May return for a slightly larger fan in the hope that it will disperse the air more effectively.
