Pike & Co. Logic SKYSCAN WIDEBAND DESKTOP DISCONE ANTENNA [Pack of 1] - Min 3yr Cleva Warranty

Ordered this item to use with my Uniden UBC125XLT Handheld Scanner to increase coverage over the basic capability of the standard rubber duck style antenna supplied with unit. Using this on the desktop by the window in my ground floor study gave an immediate increase in the number of signals received and their strength and clarity. For example, with the standard antenna, I was able to pick up pilots' transmissions when planes were overhead but could only hear the ATC responses faintly if at all. With the DISCONE I received a clear five-bar signal from LHR ATC & ATIS which is 18+ miles from me and I could also hear pilots from much further distances.The unit comes with a heavy magnetic base which is very steady on the desk and also means it will be suitable for use on the car roof, at least while static. I have also made up an adaptor to mount it on a pole which slots into a receptor tube strapped to the ladder on the back of my motorhome so I can elevate the antenna to around 20-25 feet from ground level which results in even more strong signals. It is only a five minute job to dismantle or reassemble the DISCONE antenna sections to make it more easily portable. I would be happy to use this outdoors on an as-and-when basis but would not feel it is designed for permanent outdoor mounting.Since having the DISCONE I've not yet been at my other base which is on the Firth of Forth to check out marine frequency coverage, plus Edinburgh airport, I look forward to my next trip to enjoy increased performance there too.
