The inside of the LID is plastic. The inside of the Kettle is Stainless Steel. This kettle is excellent!

Does the hole in the lid ever closes or it always remains open? I don't want water to evaporate if it stays open

The plastic piece inside the lid is hinged and is flexible but it stays closed unless you are pouring water through it to fill the kettle. I just take the lid off when filling but when heating I have it on because it provides a tight seal so that it heats faster and doesn't evaporate
