One of the best purchases I've ever made
And that is no exaggeration: this knife oil--I know it by the name "hinoki"; there are other names for it--is bsolutely fantastic for knife blades. Living in the high desert, rust isn't much of an issue unless one is careless with one's knives, but regardless, it's always a good idea to protect blades with the application of oil periodically. This oil is perfect: viscous enough to stay whete you put it but light enough to be easily spread on the blade; it dries quickly without leaving a sticky residue, yet blades that have been treated will resist fingerprints and repel dust for days. I love shiny, satin finish blades, and I love the even shinier mirror finish blades when I can find them, but they are susceptible to finger prints when handled. Leave those print on a shiny blade long enough and the acidic skin oil will permanently discolor the steel. Satin/mirror blades that have had this oil applied, however, behave like stonewashed blades, i.e., they will not pick up finger prints at all. It's really quite remarkable and wonderful. One more positive feature of this oil: it can be applied to blades with a partial black coating w/o staining the coating. In other words, the plain metal portions of a blade that need oil can get it, and the black coated portions aren't left with a big, greasy smeer. Ok, one more great feature: I've treated +50 knives in the week I've had this oil and the volume in the bottle has decreased maybe...10%? Maybe less, depending upon exactly what the fluid level looked like when I got it, which I dont recall. Oh, and the eraser works great too. With a little patience it took off some patina spots that had developed on a CPM M4 blade I have. But the eraser is just a normal-good product. The oil is one of the most phenomenally outstanding products I've used, ever, period.

Oil is great, but the eraser is WOW!
The oil in this kit was very nice, coming in a bottle that was sealed. The bottle comes with a conical tip, with a cap at the end so you can dispense a small amount of oil at a time. This was perfect for dropping on knife and scissors/secateurs. What totally amazed me was the rusty eraser; this small little blue square was incredible. It wiped out some rust on a pair of small scissors that had been left outside in the humidity. I thought these scissors were going to the trash, but they cleaned right up (I did take a file to the edges). For 12.99, incredible deal (perhaps Iโm mesmerized by the eraser). I would recommend this kit to a beginner looking for their first oil kit or someone more knowledgable looking to try Camilla oil. I think this will work great on many blades, and I have applied to knives, secateurs, and other garden tools.

Kitchen Essential If You Own Japanese Carbon Steel Knives
Tsubaki oil is an essential kitchen item when you own Japanese knives. These carbon knives will drive you crazy, but I keep purchasing more because I love my Japanese knives. But if it's sitting out with any moisture on it for more than 10 minutes, you're in for rust, which is a real pain. I curse myself out each time I find rust on my knives despite my being quite meticulous about washing and drying my knives. A couple of times, someone put my knife in the sink like one might do with stainless steel knives and you wouldn't believe the kind of rusting that was on that particular knife. The Yoshihiro tsubaki oil with this tiny little rust remover pad works well. Outside of severe rusting where you have pieces chipping away, it easily and effectively takes care of rust on anything, but specifically, Japanese carbon steel knives. I wish the scrubber they sent was a little bigger (geez, could it be any smaller!?) but I can get through half the bottle of oil with one scrubber so it's not terrible. Definitely, if you own or plan to own Japanese knives, you must have a bottle of tsubaki oil under your counter. It demolishes rust without affecting the patina on the knife, it's economical, and a little bit goes a long, long way.

It does the job, but keep an eye on your knives.
This is a very mysterious situation. Yes, it's food safe. Yes, it is a good lube. However, after a while, it actually gets a bit sticky, negating the whole lube portion of the product. Just keep an eye on the knives you've used it on. Clean them, then reapply. Mind you, this simply a mineral oil that should used on knives meant to cut food with. If you want a utility product, go with KPL. This product does not have a scent, as opposed to KPL, which could be a cologne, IMHO. For a while, yes this oil works. Just keep your blades in check if you plan on using this. Wash, reapply, repeat. I hope this helps.

Japanese classic
The Tsubaki oil is fantastic! It keeps my knives looking sharp and prevents rust with just a few drops. I'm very happy with the quality, and especially pleased that the oil is safe for food. I haven't used the rust eraser or microfiber cloth yet, as I'm saving them for when I really need them, to avoid using them up too quickly. But I'm sure they'll be great additions when the time comes. I think this set is a great value for any knife enthusiast. Made in Japan. Buy
I like the rust remover so much i bought a larger size [in 2 grits.] the oil seems to be odorless and harmless, even edible and raw. i can find the oil cheaper, but the plastic bottle alone is almost worth the price. the cap is attached so it can't be lost. the bottle is not too thin and still squeezable. i only use a few drops a day, so it can last a long time. just one drop on each side for a paring knife, a few drops for a cleaver. spread the oil on by wiping toward the blade's sharp edge with a finger. i store the bottle in the refrigerator because its close to my white and blue steels. oil stays liquid at refrigerator temperatures. i might start using a little more on my hands after i wash since it is sold as a body oil too. Yoshihiro Cutlery of Beverly Hills since 2012 has been continuing in a 500 year tradition of japanese knives. Check out their chinese vegetable cleaver and blue steel knives at echefknife dotcom good Prime deal, quality product, recommended.

Good quality with average package
Quality is good. But it comes in a plastic bag. I was expecting a small cardboard box maybe?
