The mattress was plastic and cardboard wrapped, shipped as stated on Amazon web page.The mattress is firm and wonderfully comfortable. Certainly this mattress will help your back with problems you've got. That is why I purchased this particular mattress, because of the way they described the way it is made.I definitely recommend this mattress!!!!
