To snug on spindle to advance string
Purchased these as a specified use with Craftsmen V20* BRUSHLESS RP™ String Trimmer Mod# CMCST930P1.String is correct guage. Spool fits into carriage. The two major problems occur that prevent 'autofeed' of the string as described:1) The spindle hole on the spool is fractionally smaller than the spindle causing too much friction for the spool to advance an appropriate amount of spring. It should be loose to allow spool to spin off about 2-3" of string, and it doesn't. The spool is too tight to spin. To verify this, I measured with calipers, and subsequently drilled out the spindle hole on the spool to make it ~1.32" larger than the spindle.2) The wound string is too tight on the spool to spin off when needed. It is too tight to the adjacent winding where it is tightly wedged, and will not spin off when needed. To verify this, I unwound an entire spool, and rewound it a bit looser by hand. After making these adjustments, it spins free and releases line.I can't make these adjustments on every single spool. The manufacturer is not building these to OEM specs., and therefore renders this product useless as it is designed for this model.
