The ink pad was in it and it was inked up. **Q: What are the years on this stamp?** A: I bought one in November 2021 and the years on mine are from 2021-2032 so I'm very happy. **Q: does this stamp work on plastic?** A: None of the Trodat self-inking stamps work on plastic as the ink is water based. **Q: Can i use black ink instead of blue?** A: Hello Amazon Customer, Great question. The RECEIVED date stamp (Trodat 4750) is sold with a BLUE/RED ink pad already installed in the stamp. Your date prints in RED ink and RECEIVED stamps in BLUE ink. You can purchase a replacement pad in BLACK ink and replace the pad so the entire stamp (date and RECEIVED) prints in BLACK ink.
