Excellent Value, Excellent Product, Drills Right Through Clay
The best digging and gardening product I have purchased. Holes for fence post; holes for small trees, you name it. This product was suggested on Consumer Reports so I thought I would give it a try for my outdoor work and it is awesome. I recommend it to anyone that may have a yard full of clay. It will drill right through the clay...give it a try.

Excellent for soil borings prior to planting flowers
I am a geologist, so this auger was excellent. I tried both a battery-powered drill and a 110-volt drill. Both work OK, but if 110-volts is available, then use a power extension cord. The 110-volt drill has better torque. I was pleased to learn that the soil auger also works in a horizontal position. Was able to shear the hard clayey soil and loosen it up. Previously, I used an 8-inch deep auger, but now realize that the 12-inch deep auger is far better and more versatile. This auger helped to drill a garden hole about two feet wide and two feet diameter. That hard clayey soil was excavated by a soil-scoop, then discarded. The new soil was pea-gravel at the base, then organic potting soil mixed with coarse clean sand. The extra-large hole is then backfilled with the new soil, and the future roots will extend downward where the residual moisture is located. The hexagonal shaft fits into the 3-jaw drill chuck, so there is no slippage while digging into hard soil. This soil auger is strongly recommended. It saves back-breaking work with a shovel and trowel.

This is a great auger.
If you simply want to know if this auger works or not, I would tell you that this auger works excellent for its intended purpose. If you want more details about this auger, just continue to read on. Due to the pandemic, I spend more time than ever in my house. As I spent more time in my house including the backyard, I found that the backyard is an eyesore to me and my family. Before the pandemic, I worked six days a week and I never really have anytime to go to the backyard. It was pretty much untouched, and weeds overgrew everywhere. Now I have a lot of time everyday, and I decided to work on the backyard to make it look better. Since the backyard never received any maintenance, the soil was as hard as rock. After spending a morning in the backyard, I barely loose any soil and my arms felt sore. I ended up buying this auger after some google search. This auger really makes digging so much easier and it saved my arms. The only down side about this auger is that you need a powerful drill preferable impact drill if your soil is hard like mine. Nevertheless, this auger does a great job in digging and I would recommend it to anyone who need help in digging.

Works Pretty Well, But You Need Arm Strength
I bought this to use as a tiller, because tillers are really expensive, and they are difficult for me to use at times. I didn’t expect this to be perfect for that, and I certainly don’t expect to till acres of ground with this, but I figured I could make do considering this thing costs about a tenth as much as a halfway decent small gas tiller. I just got it yesterday, and I’m liking it pretty well overall. I have it attached to a basic Black & Decker 20V cordless drill. I am using it on the slow speed setting as recommended by the company. However, at the slow speed, it really doesn’t do much, except in soil that is already pretty soft. Even in soft soil, my drill will bog down often and stop spinning. On the fast speed, it does perform quite well. However, I only tried that briefly, as I don’t want to risk breaking my wrist since I don’t have the side handle drill the company recommends. The thing is, the side handle drills I found almost all cost about as much as a small tiller, anyway. And I mean, if I could afford the drill, I would have just bought a small tiller. (I do have a small tiller, but it doesn’t work as well as I’d like for it to.) If you use this thing for what it’s meant for, just digging holes, it works pretty well. It did NOT work well in the hard soil near the side of my house, however in softer soil it worked fine. But don’t expect it to till a small herb bed like I was hoping to use it for. I also suffer from pain in my forearm a lot as a result of an injury a few weeks ago, and this thing is ROUGH on that. Even after 2 minutes of use, my arm is aching quite a bit. I think it takes pretty strong forearms to use this a lot unless you do have one of the side handle drills.

My new favorite garden tool!
Where do I start? How about with needing to plant 4 fruit trees, 96 stalks of corn, 48 tomato plants, and a couple of blueberry bushes... How did I finish? With this Power Planter drill auger bit. Talk about making fast work out of backbreaking work, this did it for me, and bonus points for being purple! Clearly how fast it works will depend on your drill, but even as my drill was running out of battery, this thing still dug holes way faster and easier than I could. I also used it to just loosen up the soil in the garden, kind of like a giant kitchen mixer. Would recommend highly!

Higher cost, higher quality makes it worth it
This costs more than others listed on Amazon but it is worth every penny. It is significantly heavier and more sturdy which is exactly what you want to drill through rocky soil like I have. Indeed you get what you pay for.

Works amazing
This was amazing!! I had to dig extra holes for more support for my house I’m building. The holes that needed to be dug were under the frame and not easy to get to. I tried to hand dig and it took me a whole day to get half a hole dug. I needed to find something so I kept trying to think of a way to dig and then it hit me!!! So I researched and found this auger. Was a bit hesitant that it could get through my hard Georgia soil. Well it did and saved me days of struggle and hard work. My holes we dug pretty quick for having to dig 20 inches down. So happy!!!

Must Have Tool for Penetrating Hard Clay Soil
Excellent for loosening and removing hard clay. I live in an area that has clay beneath the topsoil and when digging holes to plant shrubs, etc., you reach clay withing approximately 5 inches of depth. This auger drill bit is extremely effective in penetrating the clay so you can reach the depth required for planting. The auger bit is made of very strong metal and is as effective as the torque in your drill. The amount of torque or setting on your drill is important. If your drill can handle it, this auger bit can definitely do the job.

A must tool for an avid or professional gradner. Great results with no blood, sweat or tears.
I am an advocate for the right tool for the job makes for an easy and professional finish to a task. What a pleasure to use this tool. It makes turning the flower beds so easy. Instead of just scraping the surface and ending up in agony with back, wrist and shoulder pain added to hand blisters after an all day session, using the Power Planter 312 has shortened the task to a few hours and I now have soil well tilled to a depth of about a foot. Digging a hole to plant a rose bush took 2 minutes, the 1st minute to dig the hole and the rest of the time to remove the soil and plant the bush. Better still, no blood sweat or tears. Fantastic tool. My only regret is that the information about this tool didn't cross my path earlier.

Utterly incredible!
This is absolutely flipping amazing!! I can’t do it enough justice! I’m just on the last run of planting 3500 bulbs for a job and without this i would’ve been in some major bulb planting financial disaster! With this I can dig a 300mm deep hole in seconds (for alliums in case your wondering what would require such a deep hole!) and it’s big enough to put my whole hand and bulb down into the hole to plant it the right way up and settle it into position. I have even turned over and fluffed up whole planting flower beds, nothing more than a couple of m2 yet but it is incredible! One moment a compacted bit of soil then seconds later it’s super fluffed and soft and ready to plant.. if you’re at all interested you should definitely buy one, you can’t help but be impressed!
