Q: How long can you wait to burn? My little heat gun isn't doing it.

I had a small heat gun the first time I tried and it took a long time on a thin pine blank board. I had to hold it really close and make sure I didn't start the board on fire. 😉 Then I bought one of the guns with various heat settings and different tips for under $20. I have had tree rings split or crack when heating as obviously they weren't dried cured, so it's a learning experience 👍.

Q: Why does this product not come with the materials needed for application?

I use the black ponge applicators that come on a stick....you can buy a huge bag for next to nothing.

Q: Can you use this without a stencil? I.E. by using a paint brush to freehand a design?

Yes you could. It is a paste so not sure about paint brush. I have used q-tip free hand. I try to avoid blobs as they meld out and cover more area than I want. I have wondered what affect I would get if I tried spraying it. I smeared it around with just my finger one time to see the results.

Q: Can anyone speak to the longevity of the burn? I hope to have some teak wood names done, but will it fade in direct sun/heat in Mexico 24/7?

The torch paste combined with the heat gun actually burns the wood so it will last as long as the wood does. I highly recommend sealing it with outdoor polyeurethane or something similar to protect it. I’m in Washington so really mild/wet weather but I haven’t had any issues with my outdoor pieces!
