Great quality projector and very very bright!!
I picked up the projector for an outdoor movie and boy it did not disappoint! The sheer brightness of it lit up our whole 25 foot screen! The image looks great for 1080P and I have no complaints about the color quality! No reliability issues and the laser is still going strong. The noise level is very low. The only thing that may be concerns is the speaker quality. They are very muffled and sound blown out. This isn't a problem for us as we use external speakers for our audio.

Bright, fantastic golf simulator projector!
Great projector for a golf simulator! Did a TON of research on various projectors on projector central and settled on this one because of where I needed to mount it on my ceiling in the garage. The image is great at 1080p on my impact screen, it's bright and can even see it with all my lights on, and it has 4 corner keystone adjustable so the image aligns perfectly to my screen. Highly recommend and IMHO this is the best value golf sim projector under $1k right now due to its brightness and laser light source which will last a long time and not require any bulb replacements.

Very good projector
This has the best picture I've ever seen on a projector. Don't worry about dimming the lights this is good in daylight.

Good projector for conference room or entry level home theater.
This should be a 5 star projector but here is why I give 4 star review. The LS740HD has a glitch that causes it to randomly flash orange. This would happen several times a day. I called Viewsonic support and got through immediately with no wait. They suggested I return the unit. They gave me the option to exchange with them or with Amazon. I chose to return with Amazon, and I purchased a new one. The new one does the same thing but not as often. I have changed HDMI cables and power sources. All drivers are updated on PC’s connecting to projector and it still does this. I have 2 other projectors that do not do this using the same setup. The problem is not bad enough to return the second projector. The projector is small, quiet (on Eco or =<80% power), has good color, contrast and sharpness. Bright enough on Eco to view in moderately lit room. The projector runs very cool compared to my bulb projectors. At first, I thought that the proprietary power brick was a negative but now I view it as a positive. The brick gets as hot as the projector. By not having the power adapter built into the projector, the projector can be smaller and run cooler extending the life of the projector. It looks like my refund will take about a month. That is a long time to have $1200 dollars tied up.

Good but expected to be amazed
I had high expectations for this projector based off the specs, the reviews and was disappointed. Does it have a nice picture? Yes. Is it bright, Yes and the contrast ratio is also very nice. My problem was I purchased it to replace a Cannon Projector that is 12-14 years old so I expected to be amazed and before removing the old projector and using the same screen tested new and old. The new one was a little clearer but sensitive with the manual focus, a little brighter but not enough to make it a good upgrade. The same fluorescent lights that washed out the old one also washed out the new one. The old one did not have a built in speaker and the new one does but it has the sound quality of modern cell phone speaker and IMO not practical in a larger room. With all that being said, if you never had a projector and this is your first one you will probably like it.

Bought for Home Theater
This is sold as a conference, large room projector, that should be super bright. For the price tag, I rolled the dice and replaced my original Optoma Dlp/bulb home Theater projector and hoped for the best. Excellent decision for me. There may be some Home Theater idealists that would challenge the color rendering, but it super, again for the price point. Pros: Laser, Quiet, Doesn't get hot, SUPER bright, I watched 2001: A Space Odyssey in the middle of the day... it was perfect. Lots of tweakable settings: Manual AND digital zoom, digital keystone correction, pre settings: Living Room, Cinema, Presentation, etc. Cons: no lens shift, go to projector central and use the "Throw Distance Calculator", it's designed to be stationary once in place, the power cord, is a "Laptop" style, wall plug goes into power brick, power brick proprietary cable connection to projector. The Cons would never stop me from purchasing again, I can detect no coloring problems in the renderings, I am running a 25' hdmi cable, no jumping or dropped frames. Excellent entry level home theater projector.

Excellent sharpness and brilliance
Very pleased so far. Installation was simple. Projects very large image. The manual zoom did not reduce the image enough to fit our screen. Fortunately there is an electronic zoom in the settings that reduced the image to fit. The keystone settings worked very well. There are other, typical projector settings to refine things further. The picture is very sharp, clear and bright. And NO bulb to overheat and burn out. All of that was what I wanted. For a laser projector, the price was very good as well.

Very impressive even at over 220 inches
I had high hopes for this projector, even though its MSRP was a fraction (1/6) of the traditional DLP Christie projector it was replacing. The Christie was also rated for over 6000 lumens, more than the 5000 of this Viewsonic. However this projector is noticeably brighter and of similar image quality to the Christie at the same mounting position. This projector uses a less traditional mounting design, but we made it work. The RS232 also does not currently work with our Extron setup since we can not change the baud rate on the projector itself, since ViewSonic admits in the documentation that it will only accept one rate. Here is hoping we can change it on the Extron side. This projector also lacks direct HDBT support, but it is said to be rated for 24/7 operation, a feature we will be putting to the test at our college. The menu is also very basic, like their consumer models, which is a bit of a letdown. Normally, I would not consider Viewsonic for professional applications, but this is getting very close.
